The walls of Pandora's box were familiar to Sam, something he was not pleased about. He walked the length of the obsidian hallway, coming to a stop by the entrance to the lava. Dream must have sensed his arrival, because the moment Sam stopped walking, Dream called out.

"Nice to have some company. Nobody has come to see me for a while, I was getting lonely". Sam didn't reply, instead trying to come up with a plausible reason for why he had come back. He had been working in the prison of a daytime, but even that hadn't involved him facing Dream. Dream was right; nobody had visited the prison for weeks now. So why was he still here? Why did he come back? He could have left with Ranboo and Tubbo, make sure they got back to the cabin safely. Or maybe he wanted something, something that he could only get from Dream.

Did he really not know why he was there, or was he just ignoring reality because he didn't want to admit what he actually wanted?

"Sam?" Dream called out again, "You there?" Once again, Sam didn't reply. "I know why you're here," Dream continued after a moment of Sam's silence, "It's the only reason why you would come down to see me yourself. Don't lie to yourself, Sam; that never ends well". Sam stared into the lava, watching it as it dripped down onto the floor, as though it was taunting him to challenge Dream. "Pull the lava down, Sam. Let's talk". Dream drew out the last two words, and in a fury of frustration, Sam pulled the lever to drop the lava.

He had to keep his expressions under control; he could not show any fear around Dream, as the man in green could smell it like food cooking over a fire. Instead, Sam kept his expression completely neutral, not showing Dream any kind of emotion, good or bad.

"I won't lie," Dream said, drawing out his words deliberately to get a rise out of Sam, "I wasn't sure if you would do it".

"Guess you underestimate me," Sam retorted.

Dream chuckled, "On the contrary, you have impressed me Sam. Throwing me in here, at Tommy's command. I was under the belief that you didn't take orders from anyone". To that, Sam had no reply. Instead, he stared at Dream, and Dream just stared back.

"I know why you're here," Dream repeated, "And I know what almost happened, you know, with Ranboo and Tubbo". Without meaning too, Sam lost control of his expression, and it betrayed him. He got himself under control quickly, but it was too late; Dream had seen all he had needed too. "He was going to come pay me a visit, wasn't he? Tubbo, I mean. Tubbo was going to come say hello". Sam breathed out heavily, not giving Dream anything. "Except, of course, Ranboo had to intervene. Such a shame, it was going to be so much fun, taunting him with the book before murdering him. At least he would have been with Tommy".

"You'll never give up the books," Sam said shortly.

"Untrue," Dream replied, almost instantly. "I will hand them over to one person, and one person alone". He paused, allowing Sam to process what he had just said. When Sam said nothing, Dream added, "Would you like to know who that person is?"

"Will it be any use to me?" Sam asked, believing it wouldn't be. Unfortunately, Dream decided to surprise him.

"Come over here," The prisoner said, "I have something to show you".

Sam scoffed. "Do you actually believe I would be that stupid? The last time someone I cared about went into that cell you murdered him".

"And the last time somebody I cared about came in here, he broke my heart and left me for dead. I think we are on even ground here, Sam".

As Sam stepped onto the bridge and pushed the button to activate it, he very quietly replied with, "You would need to start with a heart for someone to break it, and we all know that you don't have one". Lucky, Dream didn't hear him, or just chose to ignore it.
