Sam left early the next morning. Tubbo and Ranboo heard him leave, a sinking feeling overtaking the both of them. Neither were pleased to be leaving so soon, but Puffy and Sam had told them it was better to leave before anyone could notice that they were gone, as it would give them more time to cover more ground. Puffy wanted to put as much distance between her little family and the grounds of the SMP as possibly. But what none of them were happy about was the fact that Sam would not be leaving alongside them. Instead, he had chosen to stay, to continue his job as prison guard and ensure that Dream does not escape from Pandora's box.
Neither Ranboo or Tubbo knew how Puffy had reacted to this news, but when they wandered downstairs that morning, they found her stuffing resources and materials into duffle bags. She appeared fine, no traces of tears or sadness of any kind could be found across her face. The two friends glanced at each other, a silent agreement not to bring up Sam's absence. They gathered themselves breakfast as Puffy explained how their trip was going to go.
In short, their plan was to walk for a good few days until they found a nice spot to settle down.
Ranboo and Tubbo weren't too excited about having to walk for several days, but also knew it was the only way to get away from the SMP. They helped Puffy pack up the bags almost silently, and before the day was out, they were in move.
Tubbo awoke the small fire which they had constructed the night before smoldering, the coals glowing red and orange. He had awoken because he could hear a small buzzing sound, and it was starting to become annoying, considering he didn't know where the source of the noise was.
The stars shimmered above him. The night sky was calming, and Tubbo caught himself staring at the vast solar system which had been laid out over their heads. It wasn't until the buzzing sound returned that Tubbo was snapped out of his thoughts. Fumbling around his bags, it took Tubbo a moment to find his flashlight, but once he did, he was able to begin his quest to find the source of the noise.
Being careful to not awaken Puffy and Ranboo, who were both still asleep at this stage, Tubbo wandered off towards the dense forest which stood by where the trio had set up camp for the night. The flashlight provided a narrow beam of yellow light, which was better than nothing Tubbo thought, though it didn't stop him from jumping every time he thought he saw something amongst the shadows. The buzzing noise continued to follow the young boy, but despite its persistence, Tubbo was having trouble figuring out where it was coming from exactly. Finally, a bug-like creature flew past the beam of light several times, Tubbo doing his best to catch a glimpse of it before it disappeared into the night once more.
Tubbo realised that trying to find the bug during the night was going to be difficult, so he decided to make it day. Placing the light down on the ground, he wandered back out to the camp site to borrow Puffy and Ranboo's flashlights as well. Returning to where he had placed his own light on the ground, the young boy stacked the lights against each other so a large ball of light was aiming at the sky. The bug flew in and out of the rays, and Tubbo thought he was being tormented by a small flying creature before that creature settled down amongst the warm light. Now, Tubbo could get a look at the thing.
It turned out to be a small bee which had caused him all the confusion. The bee flew happily around the light, before staring right at Tubbo. A strange yet familiar feeling washed over the boy, but he was unsure what exactly he was feeling. It reminded him of music, one of Tommy's discs blaring from the jukebox. It felt like sitting at the bench with Tommy, on a warm summer's morning, just them talking about what was to come next.
That's when a thought struck him. "Tommy?" Tubbo asked the bee, then felt completely stupid. How could Tommy be a bee? But to Tubbo's surprise, the bee nodded, it's big beady eyes reflective of the yellow beam of light.
And Tubbo sat there, captivated by the light and the bee and the nighttime sky. He just stared, for hours. He knew that when morning came he could be incredibly tired, but he also knew it would be worth it.
