Tap. Tap. Tap. Tap. Tap. Tap.
The infuriating tapping. Both of nerves, and annoyance. The sound went straight through the King of Heaven. Charles to his subjects, Chuck to his friends. The king was a middle aged man with brown hair and a scratchy beard which he never has time to shave. Or get somebody else to shave for that matter. He wouldn't call himself old, but the source of the tapping had definitely aged him day in and day out over the past 18 years.
Tap. Tap. Tap. Tap. Tap. Tap.
He breathed in deeply, eyes closing as he straightened his back against his chair in his study. The fire crackled behind him, heating up the room. The scent of musty books, fresh parchment and ink filling his nostrils. It was a relaxing smell, but nothing could stop the tapping from getting on every single one of his nerves. He knew why the tapping was happening, he just didn't know why it was happening right in front of him while he was clearly very busy working on some treaty or another.
Tap. Tap. Tap. Tap. Tap. Tap.
He needed patience, that was what a good king had. But when the source of the tapping sat right in front of him, staring at him with a look so mad that could stop a mermaids heart, it was hard to have patience. He finally opens his eyes and looks at the source of the tapping, gritting his teeth but slowly putting down his quill and leaning back against the solid wooden study chair. He folds his hands over each other and purses his lips to take in the situation in front of him.
The tapping stopped. Finally. Chuck waits, more impatiently than patiently, but he waits. When no sound came from the source of the tapping, he sighs and rubs his forehead tiredly.
"Castiel, can I help you?" He says to his son, voice tight with annoyance. The boy looked back at him, eyebrows tight and furrowed, studying his father. His pink mouth was pulled into a frown, and the incessant tapping finger began again. Chuck knew this was out of nerves than anything else, but it didn't stop the fact that is was as annoying as the kingdom of Hell. The boys dark brown hair was messy, but there was nothing different there, it was always messy. Chuck could have sworn he saw a leaf in it at one point when the boy had entered the room, but it must have fallen out. It was known throughout the kingdom that Castiel spent more time outdoors than he did inside the castle, which was also the cause of the tapping, fingernails longer than they should be with mud stuck inside of them. "You should bathe, you're dirty." Chuck says after a moment of silence when Castiel didn't reply to him.
The boy, Castiel, grimaced and shook his head, still looking at his father, trying to figure out what he was going to say. Chuck kept staring at his son, knowing what Castiel was about to say but waiting for him to say it anyway. He knew that his son wasn't happy with the situation that Chuck was putting him in, but it wasn't as if he had any other choice. When Castiel didn't speak for another few moments of strained silence, Chuck decided to help him out.
"You need a mate." Was all he said. It was very simple, and shouldn't have angered the young omega as much as it did, but Castiel was far from being a homely omega, ready to serve whatever alpha he ended up with. In fact, he wasn't the type of omega to take any alpha at all, which was why Chuck had been driven to choose one himself.
They had had far too many balls and festivities where Castiel had the chance to choose his own alpha out of the court. The only problem was, Castiel hadn't actually attended a single one of them, too busy in the walls of the castle. Chuck didn't mean inside of his room when he talked about inside the walls, he meant inside the actually walls of the castle, inside the hidden passage ways that Castiel had found during his wanderings since he could walk. Not even Chuck knew where all the passages led, but he would bet his right arm that Castiel knew each and every one of them like the back of his hand.
