"Boo!"

It was Lam. Beam didn't notice that his bestfriend was behind him.

"What's wrong Beamie? Seems like you're in deep thought. The only thing left is for the the river's dirty water evaporates with your stares." Lam joked.

What happened after the last vacation of the four friends together?

After Beam finished high school, he also studied in the capital and finished his medical degree. He was even lucky enough to get a spot in the top 10 passers during his licensure exams.

Forth went to work in the Middle East after securing his license in the Mechanical Engineering Board Exams. Even though he doesn't have not much professional experience, he was scouted by a well-known petroleum company since he graduated with Latin Honors from a reknowned Engineering School.

Lam remained in their province and finished Agricultural Engineering in a local college. His family cannot afford to send him to the capital to take other fields of study which he didn't mind because he's a nature lover and learned to love the technologies behind farming and agriculture.

While Park wasn't able to finish his last year of Political Science because he married his girlfriend-classmate that he impregnated and moved on to build their family.

A long time had passed since the four of them shared their pleasures with each other. The clean river that they used to bathe was now dirty and restricted. It's now surrounded by barbed wires with a bold sign that says: "DO NOT CROSS, PRIVATE PROPERTY". It even caged the ancient mango tree with a huge low hanging branch that they call Giant's Arm. But it's now dried like a skeleton's hand with no leaves remaining due to the cement plant beyond the barbed fence poisoning Fairies Creek. Their paradise that stood witness to their youth was now polluted and dirty.

Beam also noticed the different streamers, plackards and other signages hanging from the fence.

"Save the environment."

"Capitalists, a threat to health of the masses! Get out!"

"We are not animals! Have pity on us!"

"Close the plant!!! A threat to the health of the masses!!!"

...and many more.

"It's just sad that the river didn't look like this when we were last here. It's completely different, Lam." Beam answered Lam with a hint of melancholy.

"We can't do anything Beam. I am sad about this too. But they said part of progress is the utilization of the environment." Lam responded while looking at the creek and the Giant's arm.

T/N: I have much to say about this. I am a chemical engineer. I used to work in an industrial plant handling the environment side.

"I can accept that Lam, but you kkow how much Fairies Creek means to me. It's where I got to know myself." Beam continued with his sentiments.

"It's the same for me, with Park, and most especially with your Forth." Lam rebutted laced with jealousy and sorrow.

"C'mon Lam. Didn't we talk about this already?" Beam threw a sweet smile to Lam.

"What else can I do? Your heart's been blinded with that Forth!" Then, Lam sighed. "Kidding! Hahaha!" He pulled Beam's hand towards his jeep. "Anyway, let's go home to godmother's house since it's almost nightfall so you can see that I have taken care of it properly. Like how I took care of my love for you." He tried his best to make his face look sad.
