In recent times.. Kagen hadn't been feeling too well. The witch seemed down about something, but attempted to hide it from the normally quiet and seemingly near emotionless other.. But of course, Shi saw through it.

One day, when he had explicitly told Kagen he would be away on another mission, the ninja instead decided to drop by at the witch's home out of general concern. Just to test his suspicions himself.

There, on the couch, he found Kagen crying.

Sobbing uncontrollably into his couch.. Without rhyme or reason.

With a soft sigh, Shi dropped down from the roof of the house and went around to the entrance and knocked out the front door.

The audible sobs from inside were quickly silenced as Kagen called. "J-just one minute..!"

Shi silently waited and listened as Kagen left ran away to some different part of the house, presumably the bathroom (in his mind), then came to open the front door.

"Hello-?" The witch paused, clearly confused. "Aru-san..?"

"..Kagen..." Shi mumbled in his usual, low tone of voice. "..Why.. Were you crying..?"

"C-crying? What are you-" Kagen sounded fairly cheerful and tried to play it off, but Shi stopped him before he got too far.

"..Don't." The taller male cut him off. "I saw you crying on the couch.. And I know that.. You've.. Been feeling bad for some time.. So.. Please.." Shi sighed and stared at the witch with his red eye, filled with concern and genuine worry. "..Please.. Tell me what's wrong."

It took little beyond those words until Kagen broke down into tears, clinging onto Shi. "I-I'm horrible, Aru-san.. I-I'm.. S-so disgusting I-.."

"No. No, you aren't." Shi shook his head. "Don't say that.. It.. Isn't true.."

He whimpered and held the ninja, "B-but I-"

"Kagen.." Shi wrapped his arms around Kagen and tilted his head down to mutter softly.

"..You aren't a horrible person and you're not disgusting. Please.. Don't say that. You're.. So kind. Both to me.. And.. Everyone else around you. You.. Really.. Go above.. And.. Beyond for others and.. You're.. Such a caring person. Whoever makes you think you're horrible is wrong.. Whatever is making you say that.. That.. Doesn't define you and.. It's wrong."

The witch was quiet.. So Shi continued to go on.

"..I'm.. Not really good at this kind of thing but.. I.. Genuinely.. Do appreciate you.. And.. Everything you do. You're a wonderful friend and.. Please know that.. You truly are an amazing person. Thank you.. For.. Existing.."

He stopped and realized that Kagen had fallen asleep against him when he was talking.

Shi mutely lifted the witch up into his arms and brought Kagen to his bedroom for him to properly rest..

He would stay by his side now.. Until he woke up, regardless of how long it would take. Ready with a patient and soft smile.. In case his friend would need him for comfort again.
