"Its beautiful." The whisper of reassurance gives you a boost of confidence as you stare at yourself in the mirror. Natasha is gripping your shoulders and smiling at your reflection, nodding in approval. "Steve's gonna love it."

"I wish I could see what everything looks like," you say with a sigh, looking around your dressing room sadly. "Like really see it."

You only see color when you've met your soulmate. Nat met hers a long time ago so she helped you plan a lot of your wedding, as well as your other friends and family members.

You turn from the mirror and take a long sip from a plastic water bottle, hoping it would soothe the tense knot sitting tight in your stomach. "God I'm so nervous." You wipe the water from your upper lip and chuckle, but the smile doesn't quite conceal how nervous you actually are.

Nat's eyes fill with concern as she watches you fumble with the lid of the water bottle. "You still can't see color." It wasn't a question.

You sigh dismissively. "Yeah but it's fine, I love Steve."

There was a heavy silence as you throw yourself into fidgeting with the buttons on your back. Each skirt rustle seemed to echo against the walls of the dressing room, the soft music from the other room deafening.

"Y/n," Nat finally shattered the silence.

"Yeah?" You're grimacing as you reach for a hard to see button, trying to pull at it so it wasn't jabbing you in the back.

Nat stepped forward and took your hands in hers, removing them from your project and turning you to face her. Her grasp was gentle but you could feel the intensity behind it, her eyes were set on yours and focused. "You do not have to do this."

You laugh and shake your head. "Nat come on its fine-" You try to pull your hands away but she tightens her grip. You drop your awkward smile and stare at her, suddenly serious.

She looks at you again, her tone growing more firm. "You don't have to do this."

Your eyes drift to the closed door of the dressing room, and the thought of getting up and running flashes through your mind. You don't have to do this; there's a chance your soulmate is still out there and you could meet them. You could finally see color and be with someone you know for sure is meant for you.

But you shake your head, turning your eyes back to Nat's gaze and giving her a tight smile. "No, I couldn't.... Couldn't do that to Steve. I love him, even if it means spending my life in black and white."

You could see the conflict in Nat's eyes about your statement, and you can't help but wonder if she's mirroring what she sees in your own. The knot you felt in your stomach seems to get tighter as she drops your hands and shrugs. "As long as you're happy. That's what matters." Her eyes flit to the clock up on the wall, and she jumps up. "Oh we gotta go, its about to start." She fast-walks to the door and holds it open for you. "After you."

As you leave the dressing room you can hear the music change to the music that starts the procession. You force a smile to the rest of your bridesmaids as they start walking down the aisle. From where you're standing you can see Steve, standing tall and strong like a soldier like he always does. He looks so handsome you feel like you could already shed a few tears.

The music changes, all the attendees stand. Its time.

As you walk through the doors and down the aisle, the knot didn't disappear but seeing Steve's face made it loosen. I was delusional in the dressing room. Why would this be a mistake? You smile as he takes your hand and you stand at the altar and the minister begins to speak. Why wouldn't this be what I want?
