You regain your consciousness in a dimly lit room. You realize you're sitting up, but when you try and stand you find your hands firmly tied behind your back. Panic streaks through your body and you begin to violently struggle, your breath growing shallow.

"Easy now," a familiar voice feels like a slap against your ears compared to the silence surrounding you so far.  "That's not gonna do anything, don't hurt yourself."

Your head snaps upwards and your eyes dart around the room. You only then notice a figure standing across the room from you, so still you didn't realize his presence until he spoke. Your eyes settle on his face and your stomach twists. "Zemo." His name comes out in a gaspy breath. Your voice feels hoarse and you realize you don't know how long its been since you were knocked unconscious.

He smirks as he senses your tensity. "What, you're not happy to see me?"

"What do you want me for?" You don't even acknowledge his sassy remark.

He raises an eyebrow. "You don't seem to be in the best of spirits, Y/n. You don't want to sit down and talk about the weather?"

"Cut to the point, Zemo," You snap, the adrenaline from your panic leaving your body and allowing you to regain clarity. "What do you want from me? What about me?"

Zemo lets out a low chuckle. "The Avengers have proven themselves to be a strong allegiance over and over again, and I would definitely profit from them disbanding. But what would cause an allegiance to go separate ways?" He shoots you a keen glance before withdrawing a large blanket off a chair.

You gasp as you see Bucky hunched over in the chair, his hair falling over his eyes.

Zemo continues, "But what if Bucky Barnes kidnaps Y/n Rogers, the beloved wife of Captain America... And kills her?"

Your body tenses.

Zemo leans towards Bucky's desolate frame and begins speaking in his ear. ""Longing, rusted, seventeen,"

Oh God, please no.

"...daybreak, furnace, nine, benign, homecoming, one, freight car."

Bucky sits upright suddednly, his eyes darkened as they stare straight forward. The color has drained from his face, and even though he's sitting across from you, he's almost unrecognizable.

"Winter Soldier," Zemo says loudly as he stands up. "When you hear me rev my car engine, kill the person before you." He turns to you. "By the time the Avengers find you, they will assume Bucky has betrayed them all and war shall break out."

"You're a monster." You cringe at the lack of hostility in your voice. You want to sound menacing but the fear is crippling.

Zemo only laughs. "I know."

The door slams and the silence is almost unbearable. Bucky, or not Bucky, is staring at you with a burning hot intensity. His gaze doesn't meet your own, but is almost looking at your forehead like a laser beam. You realize he isn't himself anymore, and there's no way you can escape with the Winter Soldier controlling him.

I have to try and help him.

"Bucky." Your voice is still weak from fear. You gather yourself and muster a louder tone. "Bucky, I know you can hear me." As you speak, you're able to get one hand free from the ropes holding you down. "You have more in you than you give yourself credit for, you're strong." The dark eyes don't change, but you keep speaking. "Bucky is strong. Without the Winter Soldier."

You hear a loud engine roar a little ways away, and your heart drops.

The Winter Soldier hears it too. He stands up out of his chair with a snap and begins walking towards you. His eyes still don't meet your own, but stay focused on your head. Boom boom boom, his footsteps heavy like a machine.

This is it. Your body begins to shake. Panic starts to take over your consciousness as pleads begin to fall out of your mouth. "Please, don't do this, please..."

He stops right in front of you and raises his metal arm. In a last attempt, you look up and directly meet his gaze, pleading with your eyes.

You realize this is the first time the Winter Soldier has actually looked at your eyes. He freezes, and you see his body rattle like an electric shock. He steps backwards a little, not leaving your gaze. You see him squint like he's struggling, then the visible darkness seems to fade away. "... Y/n?"

"Bucky!" You breathe a sigh of relief.

Bucky realizes his metal arm is lifted and immediately lowers it, then quickly drops to his knees to starts untying you.

"What...? What happened there?" You force the question out as you're mind is filled with confusion. You feel your hands drop as they're freed, but they're almost instantly being held by Bucky's as he walks around to face you.

"Somehow, you got me out of the Winter Soldier." He takes a pause, as if wondering if he should say what's on his mind. "... Because we're soulmates, Y/n."

Without thinking, you throw your arms around his neck and kiss him. He kisses you back and lifts you up in his arms, holding you tightly and pressing his lips against yours again and again.

"Y/n?" A voice makes you stop.

You both turn to look, and your stomach drops to see Steve standing in the doorway. He looks... Oh no. You can't describe how he looks, and he probably doesn't know either.

"Steve," You and Bucky realize at the same time that he's still holding you. He quickly puts you down and you run up to your husband, the torment in his eyes killing you. "I-"

Steve shakes his head and steps out of the way of the door, gesturing outside. "Let's just get you safe."

You walk past him, feeling the shame creep inside you as you brush shoulders with him and feel him physically tense. You make brief eye contact with him, and his eyes look ready to cry.

You start to say something, but he quickly takes your hand and silently pulls you forward. "Let's talk about this later."
