Chapter Four - The Mission (Part 3)

"We've got the trucks in our line of sight," Tony's voice says through your earpiece. "Followers, are you close?"

"Yeah we're not far behind," You answer, wiping sweat off your upper lip. You're keeping up as best you can, but the tranquilizer is still taking a tole on your body. The adrenaline is giving you a boost but you can still feel a drag in your feet. Nat is running beside you and Bucky is up ahead, but you've noticed him looking back at you a few times to make sure you're okay.

"Okay team, this is good." Fury's voice says, almost hurting your ears his tone is so abrasive. He must be in a helicopter. "My airport team, are you guys in position?" 

"We are ready," Thor booms back, and you hear a few clanks like he's hitting mjolnir against something. 

"That plane was easy to take down," Bruce's voice chims in. "All I had to do was go into the main control system and mess up some wiring. That plane's not going anywhere for a while."

"Good. Okay team, I can see the airport from my place in the air. I need my air team to go in and take on the trucks from above. Airport team, take on the drivers as they come. Ground team, get that vibranium!" 

Bucky speeds up a little, and Nat shoots you a worried look. "You sure you're okay to finish the mission?"

Your breath is catching, but you shake your head. "No, I'm good. Everyone needs me, I can't just let them down."

"You were ABDUCTED, I'm sure the team would understand if you dropped." She looked up at the sky. "That's Fury's chopper, you just need to ask and I'll bet he'll come get you."

As you start to refuse again, Steve's voice comes through your earpiece. "Y/n, I am begging you, please leave the mission."

You tap your ear so Nat knows you're talking to Steve before answering. "Did Fury tell you to tell me that?"

"No but-"

"Well then I'm not listening to you. Fury hasn't ordered me to drop so I'm not dropping." You take the edge out of your tone. "I love you, but you don't own me."

You hear Steve sigh heavily. "Why do you have to be so brave?"

"That's why you married me, isn't it?" You're smiling now.

"Well that and you're gorgeous." You share a laugh, and you hear Thor yell at Steve to get off the call. "K see you later. Stay safe."

You chuckle. "Not gonna happen but I'll try."

You admit it was difficult to end the call. You wanted to tell him everything that happened in the truck, and about how cool it is that you can see color. Steve's your best friend, you love him so much. But Bucky...

At that moment Bucky looks over his shoulder and makes eye contact with you as if he can read your mind. Your eyes meet, and you feel your heartstrings tug back and forth. 

"There's the trucks," Nat points up the road. You can already see a struggle happening between the airport team, and you see Sam and Tony shooting from the air. "Y/n, did you see anything when you were in the truck?"

Your mind races, scrambling to put together any details. "Uh it was pretty empty, there were a lot of boxes, some crates..." You remember right before Bucky came to rescue you the man in the truck with you bent down behind something. "There was a dark brownbox! Like really big, someone could hide behind it!"

Bucky nods like he remembers what you're talking about. "I'll bet thats the vibranium."

Nat nods too. "Do you remember which truck Y/n was in?"
