"What is labour day, anyway?"
Wanda asked, placing her backpack on the floor of the Quinjet. Natasha, Steve, Wanda, Clint, and Peter were loaded up onto the plane to the Barton Farm.
Originally, it was just supposed to be the four of them, but Wanda insisted Peter needed to come along to meet Lila and Cooper, and of course, Clint agreed. Peter's aunt was working all weekend, and he would've just stayed at home anyways.
"It's a holiday we celebrate here, kind of like the fourth of July." Peter said.
"I don't know what that is, either." Wanda said, confused.
"July 4th? You know, when you set off fireworks and eat tons of food and go swimming to celebrate the good ol' U.S. of A? You guys didn't celebrate?"
Wanda shrugged.
"It passed while Steve was still in his coma, we were a little preoccupied." Nat said, taking a seat.
"Anyway," Peter said, clipping his seatbelt. "Labour day is like the same kind of thing, especially in the farming states. Usually in New York, it's just an extra day off, but in some states, they throw huge celebrations to celebrate their workers."
Clint switched on the autopilot, joining the rest of them in the back.
"Peter's right. In Iowa where we live, there's a lot of farmers and miners, so everyone celebrates all the hard work they do by throwing a huge, fun celebration. We always take the kids into town for some fun."
Wanda nodded. It sounded like fun, especially with Lila and Cooper, but it also sounded like a lot of people.
Nat clipped in Wanda's seatbelt, and she instantly felt on edge. Just like in Steve's truck, the restrained feeling of the seatbelt always made her nervous. She was glad the ride was only an hour or so.
About ten minutes in, Nat pulled some forms out of her bag. Steve and Nat were hunched over them, discussing and scribbling.
"What is that?" Wanda asked.
Nat looked up with an excited smile.
"They're your school forms. You start next week, so we have to hand them in when we get back. Are you excited?"
Wanda shrugged. She wanted to be excited. Lila, Cooper, and even Peter loved school. But Wanda was more nervous than anything. Too many people in a confined space meant too many people she knew she could accidentally hurt if she didn't have a handle on her powers.
Nat and Steve knew exactly what she was thinking.
"Don't worry, Baby Witch," Steve gave her a reassuring smile. "Everything's going to be fine. Your control has improved so much these past few months."
Wanda nodded.
"I know, I'm just scared."
Nat squeezed her shoulder.
"I know, but you don't have to be. School will be good for you. You'll make tons of new friends."
Peter chimed in. "Yeah! And school is actually surprisingly pretty fun. Like I mean the stuff you learn. And you get recess too. I don't get that anymore."
He frowned, and they all rolled their eyes at him.
"Wanda," Nat asked, her eyes never leaving the form in front of her. "Do you have a middle name?"
Wanda shook her head. "No, I don't think so. Do I need one?"
"No, but most people do have them. Just wondering because it asks on the form."
