Sitting there, thinking. He knew what was needed of him.
He was always so closed off, it was the way to be. Or it's what he had come to believe. Maybe telling others about himself would be, better.
He returned downstairs after think about it for an hour of thinking had been done, grabbed a beer and sat in the lounge with the rest of the team.
"Bucky were sorry, we didn't mean to-" Sam begun, before he was stopped.
"Her name was Sofia Lewis.." Bucky said stopping himself to sip his beer, "And she was the best thing to ever happen to me.."
He moved in the seat, pulling out the book with her picture inside. He held it up, passing it to Nat who was sat on his right, the picture then being shown to everyone individually.
"I loved her since we were kids-"
"You loved her since you could talk!" Steve interrupted, laughing to himself.
"-I did. She was the most beautiful, smart, amazing person I had ever met.."
"When was this taken?" Sam said once he had a chance to look at her picture.
"Summer of 39'. We had driven up to the coast to spend the week out there, she had taken the week off of work, I mean Howard had to force her.." He chuckled. "That was our first day up there, the day I asked her to marry me.."
The statement of marriage had caught the team completely off guard. Never once was the idea of marriage ever put onto Bucky, he just never seemed like he would want such a thing. They had obviously never met him when Sofia was around, that was apparent.
"Did you get married?" Nat asked,.
It was a struggle to answer such a question, of course he wanted to say yes to such a question.
"No.." He whispered, looking down in his bottle. "Things happened and life took over.."
Yes was what he wanted to believe, what he craved to be the correct answer. Sadly, such a thing never occurred.
"How did she know my dad?" Tony asked, breaking the silence of Bucky's unfortunate news.
"Your dad took a chance on her, the first women to ever work along the great Howard Stark. I remember how excited she was when she got the job, just lost for words. Your dad and Sofia were unstoppable.."
"She sounds amazing.." Tony said, looking at the picture Bruce had given him.
"Whats with the book?" Nat said, turning to see if he would give an answer.
At first he was hesitant to reveal it all, I mean the information was coming out in buckets at this point but he knew it was the right thing to do.
"She once told me that when she couldn't stop thinking about me, before we started dating, that this book here was the only thing that could help take her mind off of me. I laughed and bought it, as a reminder that she loved me and I carry it to remember the love I felt for her.." He said, looking at the book that was now placed in his hands.
"Do you know what happened to her?" Clint asked.
Bucky looked to Steve, maybe he knew something. He would have hoped she found someone else, was happy after everything. Although the thought of her with someone else was too awful to think about, her happiness was worth so much more.
Steve just shock his head, but he knew something. It was a piece of information that would send alarm bells through everyones minds.
"I don't know, nobody knows.." He said, looking to Bucky who responded with a look of horror.
"What do you mean nobody knows?!" Bucky said, standing up and moving closer to Steve.
"I don't know anything after 1945.." He said, looking to his best friend.
So, where did she go during the final year of the war and why was it a complete mystery to all?
