Y/N's sharp fingernails dug into the sensitive skin of the palms of her hands. She was emotionally and physically drained after all the tiring events revolving around the Pagans that she had been dragged into by Caliban and the Spellmans. She was exhausted after the immense pain she endured just hours earlier that day. Y/N's encounter with the Pagans was far from friendly and she was grateful for Caliban for coming to her rescue. It was only thanks to him that she was able to leave with only bruises on her back from the harsh, torturous lashes of the whips the Pagans left on her as they tried to use pain to get her to expose Sabrina's covens location and secrets. Y/N would never betray her friends, so through gritted teeth and teary eyes, she took on the pain. If it weren't for Caliban tracking her down and fighting the Pagans off, Y/N probably would have left with a lot more than a few lashes.

Although her bruised and bloody back still screamed with pain, Y/N took no notice, mind glued to the dreaded events that she knew were just days, if not hours, away. The awakening of the Green Man. Pain still lingered on Y/N's back, but even despite the pain, her mind was in a whirlwind of stresses. Her brain was an anxious mess, tangled up in her fear of what the Pagans would do to her if they found her. But as terrified as she was of them, she still wanted nothing more than to destroy the cruel creatures herself. Y/N knew if it ever came to that, though, she would never be able to intentionally kill someone, even the Pagans– although... she wouldn't be opposed to assisting someone in doing so.

The fact that the Pagans were also after her friends, Sabrina, Harvey, Roz and Theo, infuriated Y/N even more. More than anyone, Y/N understood how Sabrina felt, and she wanted the Pagans to be stopped before they could inflict any more damage. Of course, from Y/N's position, there was not much she could do; she was perhaps the most wanted out of everyone. In fact, she was only still alive and safe because Caliban had been hiding her in a chamber in Hell's Castle. Although the place was beyond horrifying, she had a better chance of living under the protection of Hell.

Heavy footsteps stopped Y/N's train of thought, the fists that her hands were balled into finally loosening as she let out a breath she hadn't realized she was holding. She looked up from her lying position in her bed, eyes connecting with Caliban's as he slowly walked into the small room. "Hey," Caliban said with a low voice as he approached her. "How's your back?"

"It's fine," Y/N mumbled. The painful marks on her back seared with pain, but she was too worried about the forthcoming events to dwell on her aching back too much. The anticipation of what was going to happen and when it was going to happen was mortifying.

"Let me see." Caliban sat at the edge of the girls' bed and she turned slightly so her back would face him. She flinched slightly at the cold touch of his hands as he dragged the strap of her top down her shoulder, leaving part of her back bare. Caliban looked over the reddened scars, gently tracing his thumb around them. When Y/N flinched again, he quickly withdrew his hand, worried about inflicting more pain on the girl.

"Thank you, by the way," Y/N mumbled, tearing Caliban's attention away from his own thoughts.

He furrowed his eyebrows in uncertainty. "For what?"

"For finding me... and saving me," Y/N said in a quieter, timid voice as she looked down and stared at her fingers. The two had never had the greatest relationship. They had spent a lot of time together, and Y/N couldn't deny the attraction and tension between them, but affection and care was not something they showed each other often. They had more arguments than normal conversations, so Caliban taking time out of his day to save her was not one of Y/N's expectations.

"Oh," Caliban said quietly, nodding. "They were hurting you, Y/N. Of course I was going to help you."

Y/N tried her hardest to keep a straight, natural face, not wanting to appear frightened. In reality, her heart was beating so loudly in her ears, her palms were sweating, and even though she was sitting, her knees still felt weak, like she could collapse any second. She wanted nothing more than to live a normal life and not have to deal with the problems that came with having powers and being in a coven that the Pagans hated. Despite that being her deepest desire, her mind still wandered to Caliban, and whether she would be okay with being a normal human being– losing any contact she had with the blonde. He was selfish and vain, that was for sure, but he was also sweet and caring. His traits balanced him out perfectly, in a way. She'd never admit that to him, though.

Caliban shifted in his position to be able to see the girl's face more clearly. His deep, blue eyes bore holes into hers, and her heart started beating faster before she looked away from his warm gaze. "Look, Y/N, I won't let anything happen to you, alright?"

"How can you be so sure?" She scoffed lightly.

"Because whoever comes after you has to go through me first. I will protect you, Y/N." His statement was firm and as the words left his mouth, Y/N drew her attention away from her hands and looked up at the demon prince, staring into his eyes again. They shone with nothing but sincerity, burning into her soul enough to make her want to melt into her confused bundle of emotions.

They stared into each other's eyes for a few silent moments. The only thing audible to Y/N was her own heartbeat that quickened under Caliban's gaze. The silence wasn't awkward like most silences were. It was intense, and thoughts hadn't really been going or processing through Y/N's head. It was as though time was frozen, and she was trapped under his mesmerizing stare, drowning in his ocean eyes.

It was Caliban who broke under her stare, though, clearing his throat and looking away briefly before looking back at her. "I'll let you get some rest. I don't know how you're still functioning, after everything you went through today," he declared, pulling himself out of her bed and beginning to walk away.

Y/N's eyes were glued to him as he headed towards the door, and she hadn't even processed her words before she said them. "Stay." Caliban stopped his slow-paced walk and turned around to face her, almost shocked by her statement. "I... I don't really want to be alone," she spoke shyly, looking back down at her fingers. Truthfully, she didn't regret her sudden plea for him to stay, but she didn't truly believe he would say yes. She did really hope that he would, though. Despite the exhaustion that was threatening to take over her entire body, she wasn't sure that her racing thoughts and panicky, agitated heart were going to let her get any sleep tonight without him by her side.

Without saying a word, Caliban pursed his lips and slowly made his way back toward Y/N's bed. The two were silent again as he slipped beside her. Although she was nervous about sleeping next to Caliban for the first time, she found that her heart rate actually slowed down when she felt him lying beside her. She had never felt as physically and emotionally close to him as she did now. She couldn't deny how much she enjoyed it. Warmth radiated from his body, leaving her with a feeling of comfort she had never felt before. It was a feeling that pulled her out of her own torturous thoughts and made her feel unusually safe. Y\N believed him more now, about when he said he would protect her.

Once Caliban was settled into the bed, Y/N turned her back to him, unable to hold back the soft smile that found its way to her lips. It wasn't until she felt his heavy arm slipping over her and pulling her in closer that her heart fluttered and she finally allowed her eyes to close. She let sleep take over her, abandoning her fears of the demons residing in the same castle she was now living in, and the terror of what the Pagans had planned for her.
