Sabrina's P.O.V
I hurried to the mines, my heart racing faster with every second that passed that I didn't get to Harvey. A million thoughts ran through my head, panicking me even more because all I could think about was how Harvey could be seriously hurt— maybe even dead.
I suddenly felt sick at the thought, running even faster to where the mines were located. I don't know what I'd do if something happened to him.
I was so thankful that Ros and Susie were coming to help. So many people must have been injured by the collapse and they need all the help they could get.
Finally, I found myself close enough to the location to be able to hear incoherent chatter, and soon I reached a distance at which I could see people crowding around the mines, some mending to the injured sitting in chairs.
"Harvey!" I yelled, pushing my way through the hoard of people. "Has anyone seen Harvey Kinkle?"
When all the answers that I was receiving consisted of a "no," or "who's Harvey Kinkle?" my panic reached its peak, but then, as if on cue, I heard a familiar, very much missed voice.
"Sabrina."
I spun around to see a mop of brown hair seated on a chair by a tree, there was a cut on his forehead and his hand was hurt.
Hurrying him toward him, I pulled him into my arms.
"Sabrina," his voice cracked. "Tommy– he's in there, Brina, and the rocks- they fell really, really hard. What if he's-"
He looked at me with horror in his glassy eyes, his mouth trying to form the words but he couldn't manage to get any out.
"No, Harvey. Don't think like that, okay?" My heart broke at the thought of how much pain he must be in. "Everything's going to be alright."
"But what if it isn't? What if they finally manage to get in there, and he's- he's dead? He's all I have." His voice was shaky and weak, face masked with a broken and exhausted expression.
I took one short, sad look into his tear-filled eyes before pulling him back into my embrace, never wanting to let him go. He buried his face into the crook of my neck. I sighed with relief as I held onto him tighter. I was upset about Tommy, of course, but I was also so grateful that Harvey was safe.
I slowly pulled away from Harvey, wiping the tears away from his cheeks with my fingers and standing up, offering my hand to him.
"Come on, Harv." I said softly. "Let's go to my house. I'll get you something warm and then we can-"
I was cut off before I could say anything else. "I can't just leave, Sabrina!" He argued, "Tommy needs me and I'm not leaving until I find out he's okay."
"But Harvey..."
"Please, Sabrina." His eyes pleaded more than his voice did, looking at me with nothing but sorrow and fear. "I need to stay here."
"Okay." I sighed and gave him a soft, empathetic smile.
"Thanks." He croaked, giving a wan smile as he stood up. "Will you stay?
"Of course." I smiled lightly and nodded. "But please come over to Susie's dad's truck to get something warmer to wear? You're going to freeze."
He nodded hesitantly, stood up and I held his freezing cold hand as we began to walk toward to Susie and Ros.
