Pact
Noun
1. A formal agreement between individuals or parties.I knew that Annie was expecting me to pick her up since we were going to head over to the nursing home so she could write while I took care of some things for my grandpa.
I knocked on the door, thinking she knew I was there, waiting for her.
But her brother opened the door. He stared at me and then it clicked at who I was.
"She's not ready, but you better wait in the c-" what must have been his mom called out to him.
"Who's at the door?"
Then from inside the house I heard someone running. "Hayden!" Annie yelled.
Hayden looked at me seriously. "Unless you want to be interrogated, I would go start your car."
I heard someone walking towards the door and I knew it was his mom since I heard her speak again, asking if she could see who he was talking to.
"Hi, I'm Finn." I introduced myself to the obviously dyed haired brunette.
She smiled at me and shook my hand. "I'm dating your daughter."
She raised a brow and didn't look very impressed even though I knew Annie's family pressured relationships on them.
"How old are you, Finn?"
I adjusted my glasses and spoke as Hayden was yelled at again by Annie.
He left the door and his mom crossed her arms as I spoke. "Nineteen, ma'am."
She was surprised that I was just two years older than her daughter. "Are you in university for anything or are you working?"
"I just work down at the grocery store as a bag boy right now but I'm in university, working towards my PhD in palaeontology to become a palaeontologist research specialist."
She was shocked by that to say the least.
She nodded as I smiled. "I'd personally like to say that your daughter is an incredibly bright and creative young woman that I find incredibly gorgeous."
She was flattered as Hayden and Annie came to the door.
Their mom whispered to Annie but I still could hear. "Where did you find him? He's a very nice boy."
Annie fixed her purse strap onto her shoulder. "Grandpa."
Their mother shooed them out of the house. "Okay, go quickly before your father knows you're headed over there. Say hi to him for me."
Hayden followed after us as Annie nudged me with her elbow.
"You coming with us?" I asked Hayden.
He nodded. "Gotta get grandma to teach me how to do a tie. I've got a really nice date tomorrow."
Hayden sat in the back while I drove with one hand on top of the wheel and the other on my gear shifter like I normally did.
"So, you two are a thing now? Dino boy and the human dictionary?" Hayden asked us.
"Don't call him that," Annie said before turning and flicking her brothers knee.
She smiled at me and I noticed the book in her bag as well as how tired looking she was.
"What does Donny got for you today?" She asked me.
"Just the usual. Can't figure out his computer and messed up the tv again."
Hayden spoke from the back. "Why's there dirt all on the floor back here?"
