Meredith started to pull Ava towards the group intertwining their hands, as if trying to make Ava feel some form of comfort through her touch if only to reassure her that they would be fine. They moved through the crowd but before they reached the group they were stopped as the door opened to reveal a tall man in a white doctors coat. The room fell silent as the interns crowded around the newcomer.
"Hello my name is Richard Webber I'm the chief of surgery here at Seattle Grace hospital, now can you all please follow me" he said in a commanding yet still kind voice. Scrambling and scraping could be heard as everyone race dot follow him out the door, no one wanted to make a bad impression in front of the chief of surgery on their very first day.
Ava looked at Meredith and saw awe and determination in her eyes. They were here and here to stay. This time it was Ava who grabbed Merediths hand as they followed the group.
"A month ago you were in med school being taught by doctors. Now..." said Webber as he pushed one of the doors to an or open. "You are the doctors. The seven years you spend as a surgical resident will be the best and worst of your life. You will be pushed to your breaking point. Look around you. Say hello to your competition. Eight of you will switch to an easier speciality. Five of you will crack under the pressure. Two of you will be asked to leave. This is your starting line. This is your arena. How well you play, it's up to you." He finished looking around at the group with a staring look of pride in his eyes.
Meredith looked at Ava and both shared a look of fear. It was all now becoming real.

After a mix of rushed introductions she found herself and Meredith pushed towards the black haired woman she saw earlier. Upon seeing her and Meredith she turned, "Hi, in Christina Yang" she introduced. "Hi, I'm Meredith and this is my younger sister Ava" Meredith replied. Ava smiled at Christina looking into her deep brown eyes, she thinks Christina smiled back, but it's hard to tell with Christina. She was either smiling or was in some sort of pain Ava thinks to herself. "Can you believe it, only 7 women out of 20" Christina said in disbelief, "I guess were just going to have to kick their asses then" replied Ava. Christina smirked and replied fondly "I like you kid".
"What resident are you assigned to? I got Bailey" Asked Christina as people started to leave the room, "We're with her too, I hear they call her the Nazi" replied Meredith. "You're with the Nazi, I got her to" interrupted a voice, Ava turned around to see the scruffy brown haired boy from earlier. "Hi, I'm George O'Malley" he said offering out his hand to Ava, which she shook willingly. "Here follow me, I met the rest of our group earlier" he said before turning around and leading them to the blonde girl and the dark haired boy.
Introductions were finished and Ava sighed internally at the fact there was no one that seemed to be mean. She could see herself becoming friends with everyone of the people in her group, even Alex Karev even if he seemed like a jerk, she was sure he would warm up eventually.
The group of interns set off on their search for the Nazi when they layed eyes upon a short woman with dark brown hair. She had an aura of command and was clearly very respected but Ava fears what she must be like to earn her self the nickname 'The Nazi'.
Bailey started her introduction with a by explaining her rules... "I have five rules. Memorise them. Rule number one, don't bother sucking up, I already hate you, that's not gonna change..."
She was at rule four when the introduction was cut short by a beeping from her pager.Beep beep beep
"Rule 5: when I move, you move" she finished in response to Merediths question before she took of running down the corridor. Ava and Meredith briefly shared a glance before they took of running.
