Ava sighed to herself as she stood in front of the bathroom mirror. She looked over herself with a critical gaze, everything seemed wrong. She poked and prodded frowning deeply.

Ava always got changed in private before going downstairs to meet Meredith and Izzie. Ava plaited her hair into two Dutch games and went to the car. She smiled to herself as she listened to Izzie and George bickering about tampons.

Ava and Meredith walked into the hospital together and headed over to the ER. We talked about our specialities, Meredith eaves about neuro while Ava always knew that she wanted to go for Neo Natal. The two were stood looking at the ER board when Ava caught sight of Dr Sheperd,
"Hey Misty, your McDreamys coming over"  Ava said pointing over at him.
"Crap", said Meredith looking around for somewhere to hide.

"Hello Greys" said Derek greeting to the two sisters.
"Hi, um...I'm going to go Misty I'll see you later" Ava excused herself before leaving quickly.

Ava headed over to the pit stopping at the NICU to smile happily at the newborns. She went up to a bed "Hi, I'm Ava Grey and I'll be your doctor today..." she started.

Eight x-rays, two CT scans and about twenty sutures later Ava found herself searching for Meredith.

"Hey Aves, come with me I found want you to meet this patient, she worked with mum" said Meredith when she saw Ava approaching.
"Who is it?" Ava asked curiously
"Her names Liz Fallon, she was a scrub nurse who worked with Mum" she replied "come on" she said pulling Ava towards the rooms.

"Hello, you must be Ava" Liz greeted
"Hi" Ava greeted smiling at her
"Wow, I never thought I'd see the day when Ellis Greys daughters were walking around the hospital. How is she by the way?" Liz asked
"She's travelling" both greys replied simultaneously, this being the lie they had chosen.
"That doesn't sound like your mother" she said confused "is she practicing?" she asked.
"Not really" Meredith replied. Seeing the look on Liz's face the girls knew they should come clean about the Alzheimer's.

Ava and Meredith spent the day with nurse Fallon learning everything they could about their mother. It was nice for someone to know about their mother's condition, at least it was one less secret.

The day passed uneventfully for Ava and before she knew it she was back in the car while she listened to Georgia and Izzie bickering again.

Ava curled up on Merediths bed cuddling into her sisters side. Meredith slowly brushed her fingers through Ava's hair as the younger grey drifted to sleep.

Remember when you were
a kid, and your biggest worry was,

like, if you'd get a bike
for your birthday

or if you'd get
to eat cookies for breakfast?

Being an adult, totally overrated.

I mean, seriously, don't be fooled

by all the hot shoes and the great sex

and the no parents anywhere
telling you what to do.

Adulthood is responsibility.

Adults have to be places and do things

and earn a living and pay the rent.

And if you're training to be a surgeon,

holding a human heart in your hands...
