Maisy was a firm believer that everything happens for a reason.

People change so you can learn to let go, things go wrong so that you appreciate them when they go right. You believe lies so you eventually learn to trust no one but yourself, and sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.

The world has ended for a reason.

They live a life full of chaos and violence for a reason. This was meant to happen. This happened to Maisy for a reason. She just couldn't figure out the why.

Maisy stood in between Aspen and Danielle, her eyes gradually growing more expansive with astonishment. About twenty feet across from their RV stood a group of men- most of them were alive, blocking the road.

Recognition crept across her face, features twisting as she stared at the man that stood at the front of the group. These were the people they had been talking about this whole time, the ones they were so worried about. Their leader, no doubt, stood the same way Rick did.

"He's someone who was with a whole lot of someones who didn't listen." The man spoke, motioning to the dead body on the ground in front of him.

"We can make a deal right here, right now."

The man nodded, seemingly amused. "That's right, we can." He agreed. "Give us all your stuff. We'll probably have to kill one of you. That's just the way it is, but then we can start moving forward on business. All you have to do is listen."

Maisy tilted her head to the side, she counted six men each loaded with different types of guns. She hummed quietly, none of them had any extra rounds of bullets on them- a rookie mistake if she had an opinion.

Maisy always had an opinion, even if no one wanted to hear it.

She licked her lips, but a hand wrapped around her wrist in a firm grip. Aspen kept her gaze on the group, cold and firm. It was as if sensing Maisy's restlessness from beside her, and she was silently begging her to keep quiet.

Rick shifted from one foot to another. "Yeah. . .that's not gonna work for us." The man frowned, almost like a dog without a bone. "Fact is, I was about to ask you for all your stuff, but I think I don't have to kill any of you."

He paused, lips tilting up slightly. "Any more of you." Rick taunted.

Maisy snickered unwillingly, gaining a small amount of unwanted attention. Aspen nudged her, glaring down at her from the side. Her lips pulled back down into a deep, serious frown to mimic everyone else.

A different man stepped forward, obnoxiously shaking a spray can. Maisy squinted her eyes as he bent down over the dead man and sprayed across his stomach, Rick looked back at the redhead who shook his head.

"Sorry, my deal is the only deal. We don't negotiate."

Rick nodded, and with a wave of his hand, the rest of them began to retreat back onto the RV. Aspen was quick to pull on Maisy's jacket. The brunette reluctantly followed, keeping her eyes on the strange man for as long as she could.

He looked strangely familiar, and it was driving her insane that she couldn't put her finger on it.

This time around she was stuck between Sasha and Carl, and Aspen sat across from her.
