August
All through lunch Misty was quiet. I didn't know why and she wasn't telling me anything either. I knew she was nervous meeting everyone but I didn't think it was this bad.
"Why you so quiet?" I whispered.
"No reason." She shook her head.
Sighing, I just nodded and went back to eating. I didn't want to press the matter because I knew how she hated being asked the same thing over and over.
"So Misty?" I heard my mother speak. "How have you been? Fully recovered I hope?"
"I've been well and yes, thanks to August." She smiled.
"What had happened to you?"
"Oh um. I was shot in my side and luckily for me the bullet missed all major organs.x
"Oh damn. The hell did you do?" Travis asked.
"I got into a fight and the girl shot me."
"Had to have been some fight."
"You could say that."
When she said that, I knew she wanted to switch the conversation topic. Sensing that, I did it.
"You know she waiting on Juilliard to call her back."
Looking up at me, she smiled which I wanted to see.
"Really?" My mother asked.
"Yeah I managed to get through the auditions so its just to see if I get in."
"Nice."
"What will you be doing?" Chandra asked.
"Dance. Specifically Ballet." She said proudly.
"That's my baybeh." I kissed her cheek.
Going back to eating, the conversation bounced back and forth between us. Going back to her silence, I looked over at her. Misty sat zoned out, tracing the rim of her glass with her finger.
"Ya wanna go for a walk in a bit?"
"To where?" She looked at me.
"Anywhere."
"Uh, okay. Sure." She agreed.
Helping my momma clear the table, Misty went and got her shoes. I honestly wanted to know what was on her mind and I knew she wouldn't say here.
Slipping on my shoes, I was about to walk through the door when Kayden stopped me.
"You're leaving again?"
"Just for a bit kay."
"But you just got back."
"I know but I'm just going for a walk with Misty."
"Why can't she go by herself?"
Taken aback by what she said, I shook my head.
"Go chill with ya sisters babe. I'll be back just now."
Sighinf heavily, she turned and walked off. Opening the door, Misty sat on the porch waiting.
"Ready my queen?"
Looking back at me, she simply nodded and got up. Closing the door, we walkes to up the street than down.
"So ya ready ta tell me why ya so quiet?" I asked.
"Is that why you offered the walk?"
"That and I want to show ya off ta my niggas outchea." I smiled big.
