*flashback*
(Their around 11 in this)George hated sports. He never thought he would be on a baseball team, but when clay begged him to play with him he couldn't refuse.
They were in the championship game of a tournament. The sun was beaming on them. The score was 6 to 6. Clay was on third base and George was up to the plate.
George didn't want to let his team down but he had never gotten on base before. He stepped up to the plate and watched as the pitcher winded up.
The ball came hurdling towards him. He swung and... missed.
"Strike one" he heard the ump call out.
George took a deep breath and stepped back from the plate. He heard the ump call time. Clay came running up to him.
"Hey George listen to me you got this, just keep your eye on the ball"
George smiled at clay. He started running back to his base. George took another deep breath and stepped up to the plate.
He got set as the ball came hurdling back at him again. He swung and knocked the ball past the infield.
George was in shock, he started running as he watched the ball roll into the grass. He stepped on first base and turned around just in time to see clay slide into home.
"That's game" the ump called.
Everyone started cheering. They had won! George locked eyes with clay and ran to him. He jumped into his arms. Clay spun him around and set him back on the ground, but not letting him go.
"I did it clay! I did it!" George chanted.
"I knew you could George" he whispered into George's ear.
They separated and stared at each other. George broke the glance and looked at all the parents running on the field to their kids.
His parents had been working and couldn't make it... like always. Clays mom came running onto the field. She knelt down and brought both of the boys into a hug.
"Good job guys I'm so proud of you!" She cheered.
"My boys won I can't believe it!"
My boys. She was like a second mom to George. Although he knew his parents still loved him, They were workaholics and missed all of George's school plays, sports games, school performances, etc.
The thought of someone being proud of him and being there for him made him smile.

George woke up to an alarm blaring. After the party last night he had walked home. He got up and opened the curtains. He looked down to see a note.
Dear George,
I'm sorry about last night. I was being stupid and I shouldn't have let you go home alone. I'm gonna make it up to you with lunch! I know it's your last day of work today so I'll pick up some food and bring it to the hospital! No crappy hospital food:)
Love, clay.
Love clay? Those words clung to George's heart. He looked up at the other window at the blue curtains that hung on the wall.
He knew clay was probably asleep but he texted him anyway.
You better bring something good;) he wrote.
