TW: Death, Mention of Child Abuse
Mia woke up earlier than Paul.He was snoring when she left the bed. Luke had left late last night and Liz was in the kitchen. She was already aware of the intruder and Mia caught her on about the rest of it, including the events of the previous day.
They were sitting down at the kitchen table, both holding coffee cups. "You know," Liz sighed, "I don't want to sound like a bitch, but it seems to me like your sister is a cause of problems too,"
Mia looked up from the cup. "What do you mean?"
Liz shrugged. "Honey, don't get me wrong. I know you are sisters, and I love that for you, but you are my daughter and you got hurt because of her,"
"It wasn't like that,"
"But it also was. Sounds to me like if she hadn't meddled with these vampires, those other vampires would have never come here and you wouldn't have gotten hurt," Liz continued.
"No, if the Cullens never came here, she wouldn't have anything to meddle into. They are the problem," Mia replied.
Her Mom pressed her lips together. "I think you're letting your feelings cloud your judgment,"
Liz quickly finished her coffee after that. "I've gotta go to work now, but keep me updated, okay?" she murmured and kissed the top of Mia's head before leaving. Mia sucked in a deep breath and continued drinking her coffee in silence.
She decided not to go to school today. She had to talk to Bella and she really wasn't in the mood for it. She texted Olivia about that and then took a quick shower.
She walked into her room quietly to not wake Paul up. He seemed tired for a couple of days and really needed his rest, she didn't want to bother him.
After changing she went back to the kitchen. She wanted to do something else before meeting with Bella. The promise she made to herself last night, about Paul. As long as they were together, everything else became secondary. And as long as they were within the safety of these four walls of the house, she was going to pretend like there were no problems.
So, she started cooking. She was going to surprise him with breakfast, possibly in bed, and they were going to enjoy being away from the rest of the world a bit more. Because as soon as they took a step out of the house the reality would weigh down on them.
It had been about thirty minutes and she was still in the process of preparing some food. Just like Liz, the only things Mia knew how to cook were basic things. She just knew enough to get by the day, the same as her mother. She guessed the Evans gene wasn't so big on cooking.
Then she heard Paul's footsteps coming her way. Shoot, he had wakened up.
He walked in, his eyes barely open and hair all messed up from sleeping. "Sweet dreams are really made of this," he murmured and kissed her neck.
She chuckled. "Well, who am I to disagree?"
He smiled. "Babe, what are you doing?" he asked, his eyes going over her shoulder to the oven.
She turned to him. "I was trying to surprise you with breakfast but you ruined it by waking up,"
He smirked. "Not to burst your bubble but I don't think you were being very successful," he said and looked over to the mess she made.
"Sue me,"
He hugged her from behind and kissed her neck again. "How about I take over and you watch?"
