Eloise

The morning came faster than I wished it.

I woke up to my nightstand alarm beeping that small noise that annoys any human on a weekday morning. The rays shined into my room creeping through the white curtains that hid the outside world from my room whilst casting a small shadow. I wish I could say I was a morning person who enjoyed the sounds of birds chirping the small noise of bike bells ringing and the smell of fresh air while drinking their cup of coffee and waving to the paper boy as he dropped off the daily reading.

I gave many props to those who did all of that to start their day but no way in hell would you ever catch me doing that.

Ever.

Rushing towards the washroom I hurry before Billy hogs it up and I don't get a chance to step foot through the door. Teeth brushed, hair done, makeup put on, and clothes picked out I was ready to conquer the first day at Hawkins High.

Back in California, going to school was a place that gave me an escape from my home. My friends would greet me at my locker as we took on the day where we shared laughs and memories that older us would remember in the future. Going to a new school in a new town where everyone was a stranger and I had no one to greet me as I walked through the doors frightened me the slightest bit. Even though a new school might be exciting for some I however am dreading it. By the time we had to leave, Billy sat in his car waiting for both Max and me as we rushed out of the house.

"You shits better not be late after the bell rings or you'll be walking home," Billy states as he gripped the wheel of his car and stepped on the gas while rolling down his windows "Why?" I blatantly asked shaking my head and turning towards him as my seatbelt slips off my shoulder. "Because I said so, I don't need to be waiting longer than I have to. And I'm the oldest which means that I make the rules when we're all together and the rules are set." I scoff turning the background and crossing my arms looking outside the window as the leaves fall from the trees and scatter all over the place meanwhile Billy reaches over turning up his horrible, ear-bleeding music that has no rhythm or vocals that blared through the car speakers.

The smell of cigarette smoke fills the air as it travels into my clean healthy lungs. "Put that out, Max is in here." I didn't ask... I told. Max began to cough as she waved her hand over her nose to expel the smoke from her airways. "I'm serious Billy, that shit will kill you."

Taking a long drag he sucked it back and looked at me as he blew it in my face "Well I'm already dead inside so what's left to kill?" With his smart reply, I rolled my eyes and watched as he pulled into the school's student parking lot not giving a care in the world if anyone was in the way as he parked quickly. "Now get out, and you," he points at me "You don't know me, you won't talk to me, you don't even look at me. You understand?" I held my hands up in defence "Jesus, yes."

Quickly but calmly I exited the vehicle while being reminded to be back her right when the bell rang. Max pushed the passenger seat forward as she got out of the back, placing her skateboard on the cement and skating off to her middle school. I slammed my door shut feeling multiple eyes on me as I made my way toward the entrance of the building preparing for my day to come.

Being new was not what I assumed it would be. I never transferred to a new school or was the actual new kid. I knew everyone at my old school so it wasn't awkward to walk the hallways.

The stares and comments about me were not as I expected.

The guys commented on my looks and the girls commented about my brother whom I have no relationship with during school hours. Trying to find classes had been impossible when several students blocked the entrance of the doors and lockers.
