"Well that was interesting," the shadow weaver murmured to her light weaving partner.
"It sure was," he responds, frowning out their transport window, "I've never seen eyes like hers. And there have been some pretty interesting trainees."
"I know. It was weird to see such a low powered shadow chasing a human too. They usually just eat animals."
"We marked that one as one to watch because of how easily it could've grown. I guess... I dunno. Maybe it recognized that she had the potential to be really strong, and that potential could've strengthened it considerably."
"Hmm. And her powers, if she actually has them, wouldn't be awakened yet. Most likely. If they were she wouldn't have any training to know how to use them... I don't like the idea of leaving her there. We should've at least talked to her family," the dark-eyed master bit her lip.
There was a knock on the transport door and a familiar girl poked her head through, "We're here, Miss, Mister."
The two nodded and stood up.
"Umm... do you know why they were attacking someone so young? She wasn't even very fit. It wasn't like it was much of a game."
"Sophia, did you happen to see her eyes?" the light weaver inquired, watching his young student carefully as they exited the transport. They hadn't needed the transport to get there because of this student's teleportation powers but they hadn't want to exhaust her on the way back.
She frowned and nodded, "They were weird. I've never seen someone with eyes like that. And there's a lot of weird people at this outpost."
He nodded back in response, "Yes. Neither have we."
"We think she has a lot of potential. You know how we measured your potential when you got here and sent you to different outposts depending on that?" she waits for Sophia to nod again, "Well her potential very well may be higher than anyone's here or in the parallel school across the world."
"School... I forget we're at school..." Sophia glances up, "You think she's in danger there with no one to protect her?"
"That's a good possibility," the young man glances to his partner, "I think we'll go back tomorrow to check on things. In the mean time, prepare for another possible resurgence tonight. Usually we don't ask students to go on two missions so close together but you and your class will be graduating to Packs soon. We need to make sure you can handle the worst of this world. Especially lack of sleep."
"Yes sir," the blonde girl nods, her green eyes flashing with a sense of purpose, "I'll make sure to tell my dorm."
"Good," the female teacher nods, looking up at the stars fading into the sky, "Sleep while you can then. But we expect you to be able to wake up and go. No grogginess."
"Yes ma'am," she nods, watching the changing light reflect off the abyss of her teacher's eyes.
As she walked off she smiled, almost giddy. She would be graduating soon! It would be scary to leave the place she had felt so safe with so many powerful Whisperers, as they were called, but she felt she and her class with their varying powers could handle most anything except the absolute highest level of shadow. Those... those could kill armies of people with mediocre power, getting stronger with each Potential consumed.
But that's not happened since we got the technology to detect them, she reminded herself, It'll be fine.
