"Get your partner! Don't let your back be turned to the shadows unguarded!"

Shouts of commands fired throughout the forest while the two senior officers ran to the transport to call for backup.

"How did we miss this!?" Ivan gritted out the clenched teeth, "This number of shadows hasn't been spotted in one place in over a hundred years."

"Yeah, I know," Delaney nods, dark eyes flashing angrily, "Outpost, calling for backup. Assembly of shadows."

"Level of threat?"

"Supernatural war."

"We'll be sending backup. Would you like us to wake up your class?"

"If they've been at the outpost or any outpost for more than two years, send them," she turned back to the battle to see several of the officers fallen already. And more shadows. "Tell them to hurry their asses up. Use the teleporters."

"Yes ma'am."

She disconnected the communication line and charged to the soon-turned battlefield.

"Ivan, help anyone who's struggling!"

"What about you?"

"I'm going to see where they're coming from."

He nodded and ran to an officer trying to help her partner while fighting off a large shadow. The shadow would start to engulf the unconscious man and the partner would blast it with her energy power. But she was distracted. Ivan shot a bolt of light at the shadow, shrinking it.

"Get him to the transport and anyone else you can help," he commanded the lower officer.

She nodded, relieved to see someone so much better at handling the more powerful shadows.

Delaney, he thought after fighting off more shadows to clear paths to injured and then to the transport, where are you? I'm overdoing it here. And where the blazes is our backup?!

Right on time, hundreds of students and officers appear, and Ivan grins. This was more of an even fight.

"Teleporters and shadow wielders! Get the injured to the transport and if they have shadows in their minds or on their bodies, I'm going to need you to remove them. Students, officers, this is what you've trained for the whole time you've been at this outpost."

As one of the two senior officers at the outpost, no one questioned his orders. He was the boss. He knew what he was talking about.

Delaney, on the other hand, was completely lost. The fire wasn't spreading. And she couldn't see where the shadows were coming from. She ran back to the thick of the battle, silencing the shadows as she walked. She was kind of pissed and the shadows could feel that. As a shadow weaver, she was more in tune to what the shadows were going to do and they to her. When someone as powerful as her got mad like that, even the brainless shadows knew they should find another target.

They, of course, were not smart enough to realize she didn't care who they were targeting.

"Daniel!" She called to her student, an energy weilder, "I need you to come with me, see if you can find the energy source they're after and where they're coming from," she told him when he reached her.

Daniel nodded and followed her back to the house, wary of the fire. "Why hasn't it spread?"

"I don't know."

He nodded and focused his attention on the energies in the surrounding area, "The most powerful are coming from you, I'm assuming Ivan, something in the fire, and a circle around it. The circle around it is where the king is sending the shadows from I'm assuming... the thing in the fire has more energy than anything else here so that's probably what they're after."

Delaney grunted as a shadow went through her, and muttered a curse before thanking her student and telling him to send Sophia to her.

"You needed me?" Her student asked, glancing nervously at the battle that had spread to limbs in trees.

"Yes, Daniel said there's an energy source that is extremely strong in the fire. I need you to see what it is."

"Yes ma'am," and she disappeared, appearing moments later with a couple minor burns and a smile, "It's the girl from yesterday."

So this technically wasn't a challenge but since the challenge was to write less than 500 words I decided to write another part to it.
