Minho's POV:
Avery closed the door as she got up to leave for our stroll. She was always ready to be outdoors. Even if she lived in this weird shuck place. Along with all the others, she was the only girl here. Until Teresa came in, but Avery doesn't seem open to her at all.
In fact, I think Avery hates her. I sighed and looked to Alby for orders.
"To prevent any mishappens and fainting, Avery won't be allowed to go on runs anymore."
"What?!" I shouted, not too loudly though. Well, Avery was sort of spacing out a whole lot too.
"You heard me. Grievers are gonna be all over her, if she can't show me that she isn't in her own shucking head, then she can't run!" Alby told me in an annoyed manner, then his face softened, "We can't afford to lose someone like her. She's like a sister."
Sister? Well, let's say that I had other feelings towards her. I guess. Its this feeling in my gut, like it makes me all weird. Is this what they call love? Shut it, Minho! No! Its just protectiveness!
I shook my head and nodded.
"Avery will need someone to stay by her side from now on. Newt and Minho, I'll leave you to see and choose who she is basically guarded by. She can be with up to one person per day. You got it?"
"Good that," Newt and I said simultaneously.
"Now, don't you pretty boys try to hog her all to herself. Try to spend at least one or two days with her a week," Alby said. Newt and I both blushed a bit. Not that my intentions were for that to happen...
Newt turned away and went to go discuss things with Alby, leaving me to go join the wonderful girl I know as, Annoying. Just kidding, Avery.
I closed the door and saw Avery. She was in the middle of the walkway and didn't move.
"Avery! Aves!" I shouted while slowly moving around her. She looked like she was in a trance, she blinked slowly, "Ava!"
"Don't call me that shucking name! You know that I don't want to be called Ava!" Avery snapped, scaring me due to the sudden exclaim. Avery rolled her eyes and sighed.
Laughing, I jogged up a little and joined her. She started fiddling with something, and in the corner of my eye, I saw a flash of light. I looked over at her hands and saw that she was spinning a small knife in them. There was skill in the spinning, and several times I thought she was gonna knick herself.
"Don't! Do that," I said as Avery almost sliced her palm for the tenth time. She looked over at me with a smirk, she always did that. Shuck! Her and her teasing manner.
"So, what did ol' Albert say?" Avery asked nonchalantly, as if her fainting never happened. Glad Alby isn't here, he hates being called Albert. He and Avery bicker like two siblings fighting over toys... They can be siblings anyways.
"You can't run," I blurted out. I winced slightly as Avery stopped walking. The knife was now pointing at the ground, I was only a few steps away from Avery when she stopped. I wanted to make the news seem a bit... I dunno, nicer?
"What do you mean, I can't run?" Avery repeated as she blew a piece of hair away from her face.
"Just... What I said. We want to make sure that you don't pass out anymore! You scare the living-"
"Hell outta you, yeah! I know! But that doesn't mean that Alby gets to control what I do! Maybe the flashbacks might even stop coming!" Avery angrily shouted.
"Its for your own good!" I said loudly, but not too loudly so that we catch other's attention.
"I don't give a damn about that! I am perfectly able to walk by myself. That doesn't mean that I can't run! Alby always treats me like a little kid!"
"Because he thinks of you as his sister!" I yelled in annoyance, not caring if people were staring or not.
"Well! Then he should at least acknowledge that I'm smart enough to handle myself out there! I know what its like, how the Grievers are!" Avery retorted.
"And how do you know that?!" I yelled angrily as we walked into the map room. It was all empty, perfect for out little argument I guess...
"BECAUSE I WORKED FOR WICKED!" Avery yelled. She gasped and put a hand over her mouth. My mouth was wide open, the words I had wanted to say died out in my throat.
"You... what?" I managed.
"You heard me," Avery said through clenched teeth, "It was ME for made the Grievers, ME who was responsible for countless deaths, ME who should be the one dead!"
With that, Avery threw her knife and impaled a bookshelf that held thousands of paper maps. None of them were damaged, and she somehow got the knife to fit in between the shelf spaces where the maps were held. She stomped out without a word, I saw her as she angrily slammed the door. But I didn't miss a beat in catching her shaking hands.
That information that she told me, she obviously didn't want to tell. I sighed and tried to unclog the knife from the shelf. But it was driven down to the hilt. No use, Avery or a crowbar could get this out without damaging the shelves or maps.
I threw a hand through my hair and sighed. How was I going to tell this to Newt and Alby? Maybe don't tell them at all? No, they would know if I hiding something. Should I tell them though? That's a no too, what would happen to Avery?
Then, Newt came in through the door and walked down. I made out the sound of something being hit. A knife going into wood.
"Hey, uh, Minho? What's up with Avery? She's letting off quite a bit of steam... Oh, and about our plans for the guard thing... I decided that you're watching her tomorrow."
