Just Smile (Hinata x Reader)

It was a beautiful day and Y/N wasn't having it. They had a terrible day and was just ready to go home. But then, they remembered they were tutoring Kageyama and Hinata after school.

They didn't mind tutoring the two, but they couldn't handle it today of all days.

"Fuuuu-" they silently cursed to themselves.

Sugawara walked in and saw them quietly losing their soul.

"L/N are you alright? You seem upset."

He frowned as he spoke, checking on the other third year.

"I'm fine Suga, just tired and I have to tutor your quick attack kids."

They said with a tired smile.

"Oh, alright. Have fun, they can be a real.. 'fun' time for you." He said, exiting the room.

They went through the day, having the same conversation with many of their classmates, but never once saying why they were so upset.

Truth was, they were up all night, not being able to sleep. The reason? They were thinking about all the things they've been told in life.

"You shouldn't wear that." "You're too fat." "You're too skinny." "Why do you look like that?" "You're just not pretty." "Why do you even exist?"

Y/N was always told to ignore those kinds of people, but they always turned out to be their 'friends.'

"Maybe they're right.. I'm worthless.."

And so, they didn't sleep, and they came to school having another bad day.

"Another day, another migraine, another breakdown."

They said as they walked to the boys volleyball club room.

Hinata quickly noticed the dark circles under Y/N's eyes but didn't ask for once.

They finished their tutoring and Hinata showed Y/N his first 65 test.

"L/N look! I got a good mark for once! Are you proud of me?" He said, his eyes shining with glee.

Y/N smiled slightly for the first time that day. "Of course Hinata, you're amazing."

They said. As they were packing up to leave, Hinata tapped Y/N on the back.

"Hey uh.. Y/N?"

Y/N froze for a moment. They only get called their first name when it's important or when someone wants to make fun of them.

The former was the real reason, but Y/N braced for the worst.

Y/N turned around nervously. "Hinata? What do you need?"

Hinata smiled, "do you maybe wanna eat a snack outside Ukai's shop with me? I stop there on my way home, and I've seen you pass by a few times."

Y/N was shocked. Did he just ask them out? Of course, it was a slightly informal date, but they'd take the chance.

"Sure, let's walk together."

After they had walked to the store, gotten their snacks and sat down, Hinata finally broke the silence.

"Why do you have dark circles? I heard from Suga you don't sleep well, but why?"

Y/N cursed themselves out but before they could find a half-assed excuse, Hinata blurted out.

"You think badly of yourself, don't you? I've heard the mean words third years say."

Y/N froze for the second time that day.

They nodded sadly and looked down.

Hinata frowned softly and took Y/N's chin in his hand, tilting their head up slowly.

"Don't think that way. I want you to tell me whenever you think that way, no matter day or night. Got it? You're a beautiful person, and you should know that."

Y/N teared up and finally spoke. "Okay." They said, smiling with tears running down their face.

Hinata smiled brightly. "I made you smile! Your smile, it's pretty. Just like you."

He said before looking at them.

"Can I kiss you..?"

Y/N laughed quietly. "Yes, you can."

Hinata smiled, kissing them as the sun set.

When they pulled back a moment later, Hinata spoke softly.

"Do something for me. Smile more."
