Trip for Two
Hadlee was happily situated on the couch in their living room with Sawyer curled up on her lap when Jethro plopped down next to her.
"Hello beautiful." He smiled, kissing her forehead lightly.
"Hello." Hadlee laughed, her eyes stayed on her laptop as she scrolled through the seemingly endless to do list that she, Maggie, and Sadie had laid out for the last minute wedding.
When Harrison had said that Maggie wanted to be married before the baby came Hadlee was the first to volunteer to help. She understood Maggie's nerves and desire to be more secure even though Harrison wasn't going anywhere. Hadlee knew all too well how much damage anxiety could do to one's self-esteem and confidence in decision making. As a collective group they'd gotten the majority of the list taken care of and with only a week before the official day they were cutting it close.
"How's the list coming?" Jethro asked.
Hadlee shrugged.
"It's coming along," She said. "Things are getting done if nothing else."
Jethro chuckled.
"With you at the helm, I'm not surprised," He said. Hadlee couldn't help but smile. Even though they'd had their ups and downs since moving in together, they were happy and comfortable. Things had evened out into a pattern and routine that was fitting for both Hadlee and Jethro and they couldn't have been happier. "But, I think you need a break."
Hadlee turned to her boyfriend and furrowed her brow.
"You can't be serious," She laughed. "We are a week away from my brother and soon to be sister-in-law walking down the aisle. I can't take a break right now Jeth, there's still so much to do."
Jethro nodded.
"I am aware, but Maggie agrees with me. You've been working your ass off since Harrison told you about the new plan and you can't go on like this without breaking at some point." He said.
"Jethro, I'm fine." Hadlee insisted.
"You're fine now, but you won't be if you keep going like this. So," Jethro said, snatching Hadlee's laptop away and shutting it. Hadlee protested, reaching for the laptop but Jethro held it out of her reach. "Nope, come on I need you to go and get in the car."
Hadlee stopped her protesting and looked at Jethro incredulously.
"Why do I need to get in the car?" She asked.
"Because we are going away for the weekend." Jethro said, shooing Sawyer off of Hadlee's lap and pulling her up with him.
"Away?" Hadlee said. "What do you mean away?"
Jethro laughed.
"I mean we are going away," He repeated. "A buddy of mine has a beach house in Newcastle and he is letting us use it for the weekend."
"You're serious." Hadlee deadpanned.
Jethro cupped Hadlee's face in his hands.
"Deadly." He said.
Hadlee was still skeptical but she nodded.
"Okay," She said. "But I need to pack and make sure somebody can watch Sawyer."
