Walking down New York City, I decided to run some errands. I put gas in the tank, bought some more school supplies, deposited a check, and went grocery shopping earlier. It was starting to get late out but I didn't want to go home yet so I went to the nearby diner. I normally don't go out but it's better than being at home. The waitress came up to take my order but I didn't notice her presence right away.
"I'm Maria, what can I get for ya?" I flinched because I didn't realize someone was standing beside me. "Um, water please." She hands me a menu and, leaves to retrieve my water. I look at the tv and the news was on. "We got a report that we have spotted ninja's in the NYC area." I roll my eyes at the suspicion until they showed evidence. It looks like a dagger with a dragon on it.
"Wait...." I start to freak out because that knife looks so familiar. Stop! Michael don't over analyze it. It's not the same weapon. You're gonna freak yourself out. Maria comes back and she was ready to take my order. I never looked at the menu. I glanced at it and just asked for a bowl of vegetable soup. She left with my order and I look out the window. My phone started to buzz and it was a text from Ryan.
Ryan: Hey, wanna come over?
I smile and shake my head.
Michael: You do realize, It's a school night?
Ryan: Like you really wanna go home anyway.
He knows me to well, I rather do anything else then go home to a family that ignores me.
Michael: Ok, but I don't have anything to wear.
Ryan: Borrow mine, send me address so I can come get you.
I gave him directions to the diner and within 20 minutes he arrived.
So it turns out on the news that weapon is possible apart of the Mafario Ninja Clan and are trying to scan for fingerprints. Maybe being out past 8pm is a bad idea. I shake the bad thoughts from my mind when Ryan arrived.
He came up from behind me and hugged me. I jumped a bit thinking it was a stranger. "Hey!" I smiled and shyly said hi back. He hoped over the booth seat right beside me, so now we're just squished together on one side. "You know theirs another seat across from me right?" He shrugs and scoots closer. I roll my eyes and except defeat. "So what have you been up to all day?" "Errands." He scrunches up his nose in disgust. "Ew, boring." I shrug.
"Hey, have you heard about the ninja's in New York?" Once I asked the question he seemed uninterested and most definably was trying to change the subject, I decided to press on. "Does that make you nervous?"
"Nah, ninja's aren't real. It just sounds like a load of garbage if you ask me. Something the press is making up to cause a disturbance for publicity reasons." I nod and think for a moment. Maybe he's right? You can't trust what's on the news. But then I remembered that they shown the weapon with the clans symbol on the side. "But what about the weapon that was shown on tv, it looked pretty real and historic to me..."
He sighs. "Who cares anyways, just let the police handle it! And even if ninja's happen to be roaming around in NYC, I'm sure it's a bad idea to be invested in it." He seems tense, it was a simple conversation why is he getting aggravated with me? I let the subject go because I want to avoid an argument tonight.
I paid for my dinner and we left the diner. It was a quiet drive and the silence was awkward non the less. After a few minutes, he decided to speak. "I'm sorry about the other day, I know you wanted to tell me something." I think back because I think I forgot until I just now remembered. I was trying to keep this in the back of my head but now that the subjects being brought to my attention, I'm more anxious now.
"I uh, it's not that important..."
He glances at me and gives me that glare like he knows I'm lying. I'm really bad at lying. tears start to form in my eyes and I had to look down because I'm embarrassed but I know he already saw. "Hey, what's the matter?" I breathe in and out deciding how I want to approach the situation.
"Ryan, I was-" All of a sudden Ryan jerked the car and we slid down the street coming to an complete stop. Ryan, what the fu-" He nudges me and down the alley way we see four girls beat up a small girl. Ryan gets out of the car and I'm just confused as hell. I quickly catch up to him but he's a fast speed walker.
As closer we got, I realized that small girl was Rachelle. I gasp because she's all bloody and my sisters the main culprit. "Jazz what the hell!?" She flips her hair out of her face. "What she deserves this for being a bitch! Especially after what she did to us." I turn to Rachelle who spit blood at her. "Ew, you fucking pest!" Rach rolls her eyes and gets up from the ground. "What'd you do Rach?" Ryan sternly asked. She shrugs but doesn't answer and limps away. "Hey! What did you do!?" Ryan yells pulling her back. "Whatever Ryan, even if I did give you an explanation, you never believe me anyways."
That's so not true. Jazz isn't that bad, you're just jealous!" My eyes widen and I just know a fights about to break out in the alley. "REALLY!? Well fuck you Reginald, what? Do you have selective hearing or some shit? She's a bitch ass princess and gets whatever she wants and you sit back an let her use you. How pathetic!"
"Ryan, how dare you let her talk about us that way. Shes been rude to me and my friends all day." Jazz pleas.
"Jazz drop it, you're not helping." She glares at me and I look down.
"You know what? You can't stay at my house anymore. You are impatient with my football friends, rude to my girlfriend, and cause problems everywhere I go, so I think you should stay somewhere else for now." Rachelle looks down and looks up at him again. "Fine. If that's how you feel, you won't be seeing me around that often."
"Rach, that's not what I mean-"
"No, I get it." She grabs her bag and her skate board and runs off."
"RACHELLE WHERE ARE YOU GOING!!!?"
I pulled Ryan back a bit. "Maybe you should give her space. He shrugs my hand off and tells me to shut up. Him and Jazz walk off and forget that he was my ride home. It's totally dark out and I have nothing on me but school supplies. I start to walk because getting a cab at this hour is a Deathwish in NYC.
