TIME CLICHES
I’ve been told many things
By all knowing grown-ups.
One of them is that
I must learn from my mistakes.
And so I remember from yesterday
All my wrongs
And do them right when I can.
I’ve also been told
To look ahead in life
And have goals and planning.
So I draw up timetables
Dream up dreams
And think about the future.
And when I’ve done all this
I hear them say
Don’t dwell in the past
Don’t lose your way in dreams
Live for today because
Today is a gift
I listen to all of them
Spout these time clichés.
And when I find myself stuck
Not knowing where to look
They all wonder why.
