"Steve represented the best in all of us. Courageous, righteous, hopeful. And he mastered posing stoically."

Lyra Brown was sat in the crowd, next to James Rhodes, as Sam was giving the shield to the government, Lyra wasn't sure if it was the best thing to do, however she trusted Sam and hoped he had done the right thing.

"The world has been forever changed. A few months ago, billions of people reappeared after five years away, sending the world into turmoil. We need new heroes. Ones suited for the times we're in. Symbols... are nothing without the women and men that give them meaning. And this thing..." he paused pointing to the shield in his hand, Lyra chucked slightly.

"I don't know if there's ever been a greater symbol. But it's more about the man who propped it up, and he's gone. So, today we honor Steve's legacy. But also, we look to the future. So, thank you, Captain America. But this belongs to you." Everyone clapped, as Sam passed the shield over, and it was placed into a glass case.

"Thanks again for coming forward with the shield, Sam."

After the conference, Sam walked over to Lyra and Rhodes who both pulled him into a separate hug.

"It was the right decision." He told them.

"Take a walk?" Rhodey suggested to them both, they nodded and headed away towards the museum.

"Yeah, I've been at home. My sister and my nephews, man. When I left, they were babies. I come back and they're little men.
It's crazy, you know?" Lyra laughed slightly whilst Rhodey nodded.

"Yeah"

"Well, you should bring 'em out to D.C. sometime. I'll teach 'em how to fly. You know, I mean, the right way." Rhodey joked.

"It's crazy that nobody's going to be carrying that shield" Lyra stared at part of the exhibit, "Hey, we went for 70 years without anybody carryin' it when Steve was on ice. So, I think we'll be all right." He grabbed Lyra's shoulder and she smiled up at him.

"That was a different time Sam I see you're gonna make me ask. Why didn't you take up the mantle?" Rhodes sighed.

"When Steve first told me about the shield, the first words I said were, "It feels like it belongs to someone else."

"Hmm"

"That someone else is Steve" Lyra stood up and moved along slightly unsure if she could listen to the bickering anymore, she rubbed her temples with her fingers, trying to ease a headache.

"Lyra are you alright?" Sam walked up to her and she nodded smiling. "Yeah I'm fine Sam" he nodded slightly with a look off concern before they both said goodbye to Rhodes and headed towards the Avengers Headquarters.
