"She's been diagnosed with Leukemia"

That's all that's been echoing in Harry's head since Niall told him the night before. He felt like he was in a haze, but he was trying to distract himself from it.

They were travelling to their next destination and he's done everything he can to keep himself occupied. He's talked to Niall, he's hung out with Mitch and Sarah along with the rest of his band and even called up Zayn to try and keep himself from acknowledging the painful truth that was given to him last night.

Johannah Deakin neé Tomlinson, the woman that he looked at as a second mother was diagnosed with cancer.

At first he was in complete denial. There was no way that someone as full of life and as full of love as Jay would be cursed with something like this. He raged and cried both over the phone and in private after he hung up on Niall, who tried his level best to calm him but wasn't able to because he wasn't physically there.

The only ones who could ever calm him down over the phone were his mum and Louis.

He had no illusions about her survival rate. Despite Niall's optimism from what he had heard from Louis, Harry knew that Leukemia was one of the deadliest forms of cancer out there, and even if it was caught early, the patient may still not survive.

He can still remember the time that she made him feel so welcome and practically adopted him into their family. They were meant to be celebrating her and Dan that day, after all they were the ones who were getting married, but she took some time out of her celebration to introduce Harry to the members of her family properly with zero prompting from himself or from Louis. He never felt so readily accepted by anyone, but Jay definitely earned her place as his second mother on that day, just by being herself and believing that Harry and Louis were meant to be.

That train of thought brought on a whole other wave of emotion in Harry.

He heard the news from Niall, but he truly wanted to hear it from Louis. He wanted to be sure that Louis would be okay, and if he was being honest, if only to himself, then he wanted to hear his voice.

He still hadn't heard from Louis, and it was nearing the late afternoon on the next day.

With growing impatience, Harry picked up his phone and send Niall a message asking if he had heard from Louis that day.

Potato: Yeah, I've spoken to him, why?

Harry just stared at his phone in disbelief for a beat before cold fury began to grow in his chest. He's intentionally avoiding me.

He was brought back to reality when he saw that Niall had sent another message.

Potato: He told me he talked to you. What happened Haz?

Harry gave a bitter chuckle. Niall seemed to know, yet not know at the same time. So close, yet so far, Nialler.

Me: If by "talked to me" you mean sent me a message
telling me that he had to force himself to listen to
my album, asking me to do the same courtesy to
him and then saying I don't have to respond then
yeah he talked to me.

Me: Sorry. I'm just a bit angry that he's lying to you
over all of this.

Potato: No I completely understand, mate. It's no problem
at all. If you need someone to vent to, you know you can
talk to me.
