A soft shake, gentle like he wasn't expecting to actually wake me up, greeted my lower leg. It stirred me from my sleep but not quite enough to make me open my eyes. I kept half-awake in case I was imagining the warm, loose grasp on my calf. Unfortunately, after about a minute, the shake returned with the same force. Groggily, I shifted off my side and looked over to the source of the shove. My legs were across Karl's lap, right in his way so he couldn't get up. He was facing me, hand carefully resting on my leg as he waited for my reaction. A smile grew on his flat lips.

"Hey, it's late. Do you wanna go to bed?" He asked thoughtfully in a hushed voice. He was careful not to startle me, as if I were a stray dog.

A soft groan rumbled in my throat as I sat up, my legs still draped across him. I was too tired to even think about how the position may have been uncomfortable. I nodded slowly, rubbing my eye to rid it of enough sleep to get up on my own. How long had I been laid across him? It was comforting to know, strangely, that he would just let me spread across him without getting tense or it being awkward.

"Yeah, sorry," I quietly acknowledged my legs on him as I shifted them towards the front of the couch, "what time is it?"

Karl adjusted a little now that I had freed him. His hand reached down to his phone and looked at the screen as it lit up before him. "Just after eleven. Alex just went to bed around ten minutes ago," he answered.

"What have you been doing since I trapped you?" The only energy I could muster I placed towards a jest at Karl.

He shrugged, setting his phone back on the cushion. "Nothin', just catching up on my phone."

I hummed and stretched my arms, causing a soft pop to emit from my back. "Alright, I'm heading to bed. Goodnight, Karl," I told him as I stood from the couch and stared down at his drowsy yet pleased look.

"Night, (Y/n)."

He watched, I could feel on the ridges of my back, me walk back to my end of the house. Before I could cross my threshold to my room, he called out to me a final farewell:

"Sweet dreams!"

I turned my head a looked at him, a childish grin on now just to add to the affectionate words.

I smiled in response, though, taking the lighthearted fun well and enjoying the sentiment. "You, too," I replied before walking off to my room and shutting the door behind me.

I must've slept for years that night. I woke up more refreshed than I had in a while. Wrapped in the intense comfort of my thick comforter layer with Karl's sweatshirt, once I gained consciousness, I was upset that I couldn't fall back asleep. I could feel the fleece rubbing against my arms and insulating the heat radiating off my body. And my bare legs were surprisingly just as warm as they carefully rubbed against each other.

Being well-rested, I found myself senselessly laying in my bed and begging to fall back asleep. Despite my quiet pleads, I eventually drew myself from my bed, light shining through my curtains and onto me. I padded into the kitchen, letting the sleeves of the sweatshirt fall past my wrists and hiding my hands. The house itself had a chill, making goosebumps dance along my legs as they faced it head-on.
