"Where's she?" Antone said walking in, seeing Lenny alone on his couch.
Antone had come over after Lenny called him, raging about what Micah did to the innocent girl he sheltered. His father knew no bounds. To say he was surprised would be a lie.
All his father ever knew was how to cause pain. The scars on his body were a testament of that. Never mind the scar on his heart.
"She's changing her...bandage." Lenny said, "She doesn't want me to see it. Literally pushed me out of the room."
Antone sat next to Lenny, patting his back.
"She's alright. That's all that matters."
"You were right," Lenny said.
"Huh?"
"A week was too long."
"Lenny, I didn't mean anything by that. I didn't know any of this was going to happen. I just wanted you to be cautious."
"I know."
"He had someone watching us, more specifically me. When I first went on the job, he told me to bring someone with me, I said no but he must've done it anyway behind my back."
"But why did he want you to carry someone with you? It was a simple job."
"I don't know. I don't fucking know. But what I am sure of is, that he had some motherfucker watching me. That's how he knew she stayed a week with me. That's why he told us to go to those d*mn meetings. He wanted me gone so he could do whatever he please to Amanda." Lenny said his teeth clenched together, his feet restless as they stomped on the floor repeatedly.
"Fuck! How could I not notice that, Antone?"
"I should've never brought her home. None of this would've happened."
Antone sighed.
"If he had someone watching you, whether she stayed a week, a day, or none at all, he would've gotten to her, Lenny. Stop blaming yourself... My father is just a ruthless fuck." Antone said, reassuring him.
These words did nothing to calm Lenny. If anything they reignited the flames in his chest to know Micah never faced consequences for terrorizing those around him. As if he was above the law.
Lenny clenched his jaw.
"He had no fucking right." Lenny said, his jaw clenched.
Lenny got up, snatching his keys from the table and storming to the door. Anger radiated off him in waves.
"Where are you going, Lenny?" Antone said shouting at Lenny's back.
He only hoped Lenny wasn't going to do something stupid.
"The Estate," Lenny said, slamming the door.
"I spoke too soon." Antone muttered rushing behind Lenny, hurrying to get into the car before Lenny drove off.
