lia finally unpacked the last box into her new apartment in florida. she was so exhausted, and felt as if she could nearly collapse. her phone vibrated and she peered down to check the notification. a text from her best friend.
"get moved in okay?"
she huffed and closed her phone, not having the energy to respond. her best friend, katie, who still lived back in texas. they had been best friends since they were born, their mothers friends before them. katie had been there through everything, and was the one who encouraged her to stay in college and move to florida. she had always wanted to live in florida, and she felt that ever since everything happened that it was time for a new start. her mom used to take her to florida, just her and lia. months ago, her mom passed away. she raised lia by herself, and she looked up to her mother more than anything. lia couldn't stay around in her hometown without her mom, everything reminded her of the void she was living with. but now, she's here in the hopes of a new start.

two hours later, after trying to figure out how to work her new shower and a quick run to the mcdonald's she conveniently had down the street, she decided to call katie. after two rings, she picked up to her surprise.
"hey lia,"
"hey, katie," she sighed.
"did you get moved in alright?"
"yeah, i actually just finished unpacking my last box of shit. i'm so tired though, and i'm bored. i miss being able to hang out with you,"
"yeah, you shouldn't have moved so far away then," she laughed. "wanna play minecraft?"
"sure, just gimme a sec to get logged on."
katie had taught lia how to play minecraft when they were young, and ever since then she had always played with her for fun. she has never streamed or doesn't watch any streamers, although she does admit that at looks fun to do but she doesn't have time.

after an hour of playing minecraft together, katie interrupted.
"i think i'm gonna go, i have some dumb essay to write do you mind?"
"no, not at all. i am pretty tired anyways, i'm probably gonna go to bed."
"okay, night li."
"night."
she ended the call, and got into her bed for the first time in her new apartment in orlando, florida.

she checked her phone on her side table.
12:18 a.m.
the person next door has been so loud, she had no idea what they could possibly be doing. it sounded like a guy, he had to be young. she just didn't know how he hadn't gotten any noise complaints yet.
she deciphered going over and knocking, and asking to be quieter so she could finally sleep away her jet lag. after thinking on it, she put on her faded pink crocs next to her bed and walked out the door.
she raised her hand up to her neighbor's door, not knowing what she was walking into. she knocked quietly three times, and heard a faint, "hold on one sec," and then footsteps coming.
a boy opened the door, and lia had to admit that he was good looking. he had dirty blonde hair and green eyes, and he had a dust of freckles along his face. he stood confused as to why she knocked at midnight.
"hey, um...do you think you could be a little quieter over there? sorry to bother you and all." she said awkwardly, flashing a close-lipped smile after she spoke.
the boy's eyes widened, and he immediately realized how loud he had probably been without realizing.
"oh my gosh, of course. i'm so sorry i totally lost track of how late it was. sorry to bother you."
he glanced at her skeptically, not recognizing her.
"uh, have i ever seen you around before?"
"oh, probably not," she laughed, "i just moved in here today, from texas."
"wow, that's far away. i've got a good friend from texas, maybe you know him." he joked. "well i hope i see you around sometime soon, it was nice to meet you. sorry again for being loud. " he grinned.
"yeah, you too. see you around." she began walking away when the boy said something.
"wait, i didn't catch your name?"
"i'm lia." she smiled.
"clay." he said back. "see you around."
