The whole time we were riding back to the precinct, all I could think about was getting Samantha out of this house, so she doesn't have to go through this nightmare again. When I started to turn my blinker on to turn right down 15th and main, my stomach began to growl. I haven't eaten since dinner, and now it was reaching midnight.

"How about we stop for a cup of coffee at a diner?" I suggested.

"Sounds good to me." she replied.

I turned off my blinker so that we could head straight to the 11th street café, my all time favorite. When we headed in, I knew that she felt this connection with me, and I could see it in her eyes. She just had this glow whenever she looked at me, she just had this daughter-like smile that doesn't appear too often for me.

"You know what?" I started to say, "Why don't you come stay with me for a few weeks. You can't stay in your house, since it's a crime scene, your mom is gone on a business trip, and you are not allowed to stay with your dad. How's about it?"

"Well, it would be nice. But what if my dad finds out?" she said as she looked at me with fear.

"I'll take care of that part. You just have to come back with me and do a couple of legal stuff, nothing major."

"Sounds like a plan!" she smiled. I was so glad to see a smile on her pretty little face.

We headed back to the precinct, while I gave my captain a call, as well as Casey Novak to bring all the legal documents that was needed for this temporary move. Both of them were very positive about this situation, so that sounded like music to my ears.

As we headed up to the office, Casey and Cragen were both waiting for me, with full smiles and greetings on their face.

"What? Did you get a happy shot up your ass?" I said sarcastically, "I've never seen you smile so big."

"Oh ha ha Liv," Casey said, "I can quickly take this paperwork back and take our ass-shots right back."

I look at her with a smirk, and we both start laughing. Casey called Sam over to start the paperwork, mostly signing stuff, while I followed the captain into his office.

"This will be good for you, Liv." Cragen said. "I've always seen you as the motherly type. Have you ever thought about adoption? I know that your time is running out, but adoption is always there."

"I've thought about it, but they declined me." I said, "They said they didn't see me as the 'motherly type' since I work all-hours, have no outside family, and my work is certainly dangerous."

As we were carrying on a conversation, Casey comes in with Sam and tells us that she's good to go. She also explained that she is now under my care, and anything that happens to Sam is under my responsibility from now until she is released back into another form of care.

"Alrighty then, are we ready to go?" I say as I turn to Samantha.

"More than ready." she says with a smile.

I take her hand, and we walk out the building, heading to a happier time for her.
