Minho knew it was getting late. He checked his watch. "About twenty minutes left before the gates close," he said aloud although there was no one there to hear him.

He let out a sigh. There was no way he could make it back even if he used every last bit of his energy. He had come too far and also ended up with a deep cut on his left knee. He rubbed his cut, sighed again, then got up and looked towards the gigantic walls.

Earlier, while he was running, he went through a left turn just to end up in a dead-end. That was normal. But when he was returning, the route seemed to have changed a bit.

Did I actually get lost? He looked in disbelief down the straight path that now lay there. There's no way, I'm sure I didn't lose my way. Then what is going on-

A low rumble interrupted his thoughts. The gates. But it was still too early for them to close. Were the walls moving? But they only move at night, right?

He suddenly remembered the low rumble and the feeling of the ground shaking that he'd felt a little while back. The walls! Did they actually close?

Before he could think of anything else, he saw a shadow ascend in front of him. He turned back to see the wall behind him was closing him on him. He reacted quickly and without a second thought, ran down the straight path.

Minho wanted to scream. He had no idea what was going on. He left the job of escaping to his legs and ran wherever he could without being able to keep track of his movement. The walls were closing in on him too quickly and he couldn't keep up if they didn't stop moving soon.

He felt a tingly feeling on his leg. He still tried to run and ended up tripping. He got up again just to feel a sharp pain go through his left knee. With the support of the wall, he got up to see blood. It's not much. I can get through.

Then he heard another rumble, a distant one. The gates...

It was too late. Minho was stuck out in the maze at night. He got up and tried to walk, hoping to get used to the pain so it wouldn't sting so bad.

Brrr...

Click...

Grievers.

The sounds weren't too close though, he had time. He walked a little and then stopped.

There was a weird shadow not too far.

He went closer.

The shadow had a human-ly form to it. A glader?

Cautiously, he moved even closer.

Long black hair that fell around the person's shoulders.

Is that... a girl?!

The girl seemed to have noticed him too. With her knife aimed towards Minho, she moved forward. "Who are you?" she asked fiercely.

"Let's not get aggressive now, shall we? Be a good girl and tell me who you are."

"And why should I do that? I asked you first."

Brrr...

Minho let out a sigh. There were grievers around and he didn't want to have to deal with a girl and grievers together.

"Minho. Now, who are you?"

"Beatrice. Where did you come from? There are no boys in the Glade."

"You're lying, I'm from Glade too and there are no girls there."

Beatrice hadn't let her weapon down "I'm not, have even considered the possibility of there being more than one maze before jumping to conclusions?"

Minho looked Beatrice in the eyes. Eyes darker than the night stared back at him.

"Okay, maybe I hadn't considered that, so you're from the glade and so am I, how many do you think are there?"

"I don't know"

Beatrice was just slightly shorter than Minho. She was huffing and sweat glistened on her pale skin, she must have been running he thought. "Why are you out here at night?" He asked her

"I could ask you the same"

"Well, I asked first."

Beatrice sighed, weapon still gripped tightly in her hand she said "The maze changed during the day, I got lost.

Minho was deep in thought, Her maze changed during the day, maybe his did too, that's why he couldn't recognize it. "Well? Your turn" Beatrice snapped him out of thought

"I got lost too, okay? But we have to go now, there are creatures we do not want to meet out here."

"Yeah, the grievers, I know"

Brrr...

Click-click

This time, the sound was louder. Minho took two steps back as Beatrice turned around to see a griever right around the corner. She gasped as Minho grabbed her hand and started running pulling her along with him, but the stinging pain in his left knee made him halt. Minho and Beatrice were still holding hands as Beatrice finally came back to her senses. She started pulling Minho behind her.

"RUN!"
