Black. Black pain. A little bit of light and I moved and I stopped, and oh God. The pain.
Every inch of me ached. I blinked open my eyes before shutting them again; the bright light burning them. All that had happened came rushing back to me: the pod, the crash, the planet, and Catra. I felt her hand still grasped in mine, and opened my eyes despite the sting. Catra. She laid unconscious in her seat, fresh blood dripping from her head, the cut on her lip from the asteroid re-opened, and hand still in mine not moving.
"Catra," I coughed, my lungs burning as I spoke. "Catra!" I called again, my voice cracking. I fumbled with my seatbelt before unclasping it and tearing myself from the chair. I crawled over to her, and grabbed her shoulders. I shook her. Hard. But Catra didn't wake up.
I remembered when Catra fell from the ledge on Horde Prime's ship. When she fell and I jumped and I crawled towards her, and she still didn't move.
____________
"Catra!" I screamed as I ran to the edge of the platform. I watched Catra's body fall into the chasm of darkness, so far I couldn't see the end. So far I couldn't see when she slammed into the cold metal I knew was waiting below. My heart thud in my chest and all thoughts of a plan or a strategy or any sort of logic evaporated from my mind. All I knew was I couldn't lose her.
I jumped. My body felt weightless as the wind tangled my hair and I spun and I spun and I just kept spinning, until--SLAM.
My body hit the cold floor and for a moment all I saw was black. Catra! I thought. I need to reach Catra! I opened my eye and turned my head to see her motionless on the ground. Like a doll all dressed up with her hair slicked back by Prime, and then flung aside when she was no longer fun to play with. I tried to stand but my feet were broken from the fall. My body screamed at me to stop as I crawled my way over to Catra. I reached towards her and cradled her head in my hands. I looked down at her gasping chest, my heart twisting at each of her fluttering breaths. "Catra?" I asked weakly. "Catra, it's okay," I said, warm tears spilling down my cheeks. "I'm here."
____________
No. I couldn't lose her. "Catra!" I screamed. "Please, wake up," I begged. I held her hand tighter, and clung onto her arm, sobbing into her soft skin.
I was so focused on Catra that I didn't notice someone sneaking up behind me.
A voice behind me said, "Take her." I felt something sharp poke my arm, and then all I knew was darkness.
