NATE'S POV
After fourth period, I have decided school is going to be hell from now onward. I could sense that Katie was somewhere near me -but not in my sight because we don't haw any classes together unless you count lunch -which frustrated me to no end. My wolf side wanted to howl and whine constantly, and it took a good amount of willpower not to. I've never been so happy to get out of class when the bell rang a few moments ago.
As I dash down the halls I make a mental note (those things are piling up) to get the office to switch a few of my classes so I can be with Katie. I would like nothing more than to have all of them together, but that would seem suspicious.
"Dude what's the rush?" asks Chris, who stands next to -or more accurately tries to keep up with- me along with Aaron and James, who were in my last hour.
"Yeah, you've been up tight all morning," adds James.
Aaron grins, "It's Katie."
"I'll never understand how guys can get whipped so easily," says Chris with mock sadness, shaking his head forlornly.
Aaron whacks him on the back of the head and says, "Until you find your mate."
"I don't think he has one," remarks James.
"Why not?" asks Chris incredulously, even though he's made no secret about his lack of desire for a mate. We all do -or did- until we find them.
Personally it sounds pretty stupid to me now.
"There's no girl that could complete him," James explains to Aaron, then to Chris, "There's already too much of you." Chris lunges for him and James jumps out of his way nimbly.
Aaron puts his arm over Chris's shoulder and says, "He has a point. No such girl could exist."
"You guys suck," states Chris plainly.
"Hey, what did I do?" I ask with feigned hurt.
"Found your mate. Now I'm forever alone with James," Chris says jabbing a finger at the red head.
"If I'm there then how can you be alone?" asks James.
Chris groans and mutters something along the lines of, "I hate you."
"What did I do?" asks James
"Were born," says Chris.
"That's the best you have?" asks James.
"Yep," confirms Aaron as we enter the lunchroom.
"Shameful," I say.
"That's just great. My best friends gang up on me during the only worthwhile time of day," wails Chris.
"Lunch?" I ask.
"I think it's all meals," says Aaron.
"Food," agrees James simply.
"I've lost hope in the human race," mutters Chris as we sit down. The only other person at the table is Marie, who quickly captures all of Aaron's attention.
"Technically we aren't human," says Tom, walking up to the table.
"Keep your voice down!" whisper yells Jason. Tom shrugs, ignoring him, and takes a seat across from me.
"Good point. I've lost hope in HUMANITY," says Chris, stressing the last word.
"And you say we're idiots," says James.
"Never said that, only that you suck," counters Chris.
"And that you hate us," I add. Then pop up from my seat -we were only there to claim spots- and say, "I'm going to go get some food."
