Other than the intriguing Vampire family, there was nothing eventful about Rhea's first day at school.
She was waiting in her front yard, for Jacob to come and pick her up for school but she was also thinking about the previous day. She wondered if she would have been a bit more social, would things have been different.
Probably not.
She looked out towards the road as she heard the sound of wheels on the road and the engine running. She saw Jacob's jeep nearing her house, well Charlie's house, and stopping in front of the gates. She walked towards the jeep and hopped in. Jacob was whistling the tune of some song and had a small smile plastered on his face.
"Well, well, well. Isn't someone happy today? Care to share a part of your happiness?" Rhea asked.
"Well for starters, today is my last day having to deal with bullshit. For main course, today is my last day having to deal with teenagers' bullshit. And as dessert, today is my last day of having to deal with mundane teenagers' bullshit." Jacob said in a chirpy voice as he restarted the engine.
"Good for you." Rhea sighed. Jacob laughed at her dramatics. The rest of the car ride was silent and peaceful. After reaching school, each of them took their own route.
Rhea saw three people standing at her locker as she neared it. Angela, Jessica and Lauren, the third girl who was sitting at their table yesterday, were chatting animatedly while standing in a circle in front of her locker. Since, Angela was facing her way, she was the first to notice her.
"Hey Rhea." Angela called as she adjusted her glasses. Jessica and Lauren turned towards her just as she reached the locker and yanked the door open.
"Hey Angela." Rhea replied back and acknowledged the other two with a small nod of her head. Jessica nodded back with the brightest fake smile, while Lauren just scowled at her. Rhea knew from the start that Lauren wasn't her greatest fan, but she put up with her anyways, just for the sake of surviving in the school.
"So, before you came, we were just wondering if we could go to classes together... So that we can come to know you better and all...." Jessica trailed off. Rhea knew her true intentions. Popularity. That was it. All that she wanted.
"I do NOT like that girl. She's so fake, even Barbie would be jealous of her. I mean, I don't like the Lauren girl either, but at least she's not hiding her disgust." Isabelle spoke in her mind. Rhea knew she could count on Izzy to have the same opinion as her.
"Sure. Let's go." Rhea replied 'shyly'. She told them her timetable as they told her theirs. They all walked towards their first classes.
.....
Rhea was the happiest person as Lunch rounded the corner. She was starving.
"Why am I not surprised that halfway through your second class, your stomach started to make noises like a whale's mating call. And that too, after you had a full bowl of cereal, a plate of scrambled eggs, a mug of hot chocolate and a muffin?" Isabelle's voice echoed.
"I don't remember asking for your opinion on my eating habits." Rhea replied back.
She got her lunch and walked towards the table from where she heard Jacob's deep voice. As she sat down, Jacob looked at her with a smile, acknowledging her. She returned the gesture and waved at the other two boys who were grinning widely at her.
She didn't have to look around to know where the vampire family was sitting. Their quick and almost non-existent voice was ringing in her ears, due to her heightened hearing.
She could feel Edward's heavy gaze on her, but she was too hungry to deal with his frustration, anger or whatever the Hell he was going through.
