the silent treatment

The next day I went shopping for our Thanksgiving dinner. As I was about to step outside the front door, Bokuto came downstairs and snatched the keys from my hand. He gestured for me to sit in the passenger's seat while he strode over to the driver's side.

We went the whole ride without speaking. Soon enough we arrived at the grocery store.

He helped me get two turkeys and silently offered to get the higher items on the shelves. I paid for the groceries and we headed back to my car.

This year, my cousins, aka my aunt's cousins, are coming to visit. They heard about us moving houses and wanted to celebrate with a little housewarming party, but I digress.

Not a single word was uttered between us throughout the entire market run.

When we got home we organized the food in their designated spots, and I put the turkeys in the freezer so they would last until Thursday.

"Thank you."

He quickly nodded and went right back to his room.

So far, today has been a lazy Sunday. I occasionally peek through the curtains, looking at Bokuto's father's house.

The lights are on and I can see the TV from here. Bokuto's mother is watching a random soap opera that I can't quite make out since their window curtains are blurring the screen.

I suddenly remember her words from last night.

Why is our house so big? We can afford it, so why not?

I remember Auntie telling me this house has been on the market for almost a year because of how run down it was. Renovating it was no problem for us. We had remodelers bring our vision to life! The real estate agents were ecstatic they finally sold this house. That makes me happy they're happy!

All of a sudden, I hear my phone ring and I run up to my room to grab it.

Mimi Panini is FaceTiming...

[Accept]

"Hiii what's up?"

"I asked him out!"

We squeal in excitement and her face is visibly flushed.

"When's your date?!"

"Tomorrow night! You have to help me find an outfit! Come over!"

"Ok! I'll be there in a bit!"

"Byeee!"

I hang up and find something warmer and comfortable to wear. I slip on a white thick long sleeve and a pair of ripped mom jeans.

I knock on Auntie's office door and let her know I'll be hanging out with Mimi for a few hours. I contemplate if I should tell Bokuto or not.

He's been giving me the silent treatment for no reason again, so I decide to just leave without telling him.

I drive over to Mimi's house and ring the doorbell.

"Y/n! So nice to see you again!"

I smile and slightly bow to Mimi's mother. She lets me in and I go to Mimi's room.

I knock on the door and she yells for me to come in. It looks like a tornado flew around her room! Clothes are thrown everywhere and her makeup is scattered all over her vanity desk.

"What happened to your room?!"

"This is my first date, Y/n! I don't know what to wear!"

I sigh and start grabbing the clothes off the ground.
