I hear the lady scream more often these days.
Not at her husband, but because of him.
The other day, I heard something break,
and then she started apologizing,
That didn't stop him.
I heard him yell in anger,
I could hear him groan,
and then I could hear the lady scream in pain,
begging him to stop.
He sounded like an enraged beast,
I could hear her cry and plead.
A few days later, I heard her come running towards this corner of the house where I could hear her from,
I don't think they know we can listen to everything.
He slapped her and the smack of the slap made me wonder what power or control he has on her that she hadn't left him yet.
That night,
it didn't stop after the thrashing.
I heard her apologize,
I heard her say it was a mistake,
I heard her plead to him to stop,
And I heard his grunts,
And then, I heard her moans,
They were not moans of pleasure,
they were filled with pain.
I could hear her sob for a few minutes after it was done, she got up and walked away.
I didn't see anything, but what I heard, it was enough for me to understand that she was in pain.
I wondered why she didn't call the police,
I wondered if I should do it.
When I asked my mother what to do,
She told me that things like this happen,
She may need him, she said.
My mother being a married women,
Understood the dependency of another lady on her husband.
It's heartbreaking that someone knows how much you depend on them, and chooses to take advantage of it.
I shiver everytime i hear her beg him for forgiveness and he hits her, I hope he doesn't go further.
