I'll Never Let You Down: The Story of Danny And Maria

Chapter 29: The Past

Danny and Maria were headed back to the precinct.

Danny: What was that?

Maria: I know. That was so weird.

Danny: No. I meant why did you act that way?

Maria: what-

Danny: Come on. Stop acting, you know what I mean. Why were you in a rush to get out of there?

Maria: It was just creepy.

Danny: You're a detective, and I've been your partner for how many years now? That definitely did not creep you out.

Maria: I spent half of my life in a place like that. My father didn't care about me or my siblings having a good life. He left us in house like that every day and went out to drink. My brother got involved with bad people because we didn't have a father who cared about us. Homes like that, people living like that bring back memories. Terrible memories that I wouldn't have if I had had a good father who cared about us and I think if only-if only I had a family like yours everything would be perfect.

Danny: My family isn't perfect Maria.

Maria: Really Danny? Really? Well maybe if you grew up the way I had you would understand how easy it is for someone like me to look at a family like yours and wish for something like that. Because maybe you don't think so but to me your family is perfect.

Danny: You're right Maria. I don't know how it is to have a bad childhood because I was more fortunate-

Maria: It's ok, you can say it. Not just more fortunate but you had a good mother and father and you still have a good father. Danny it has been years and years since I talked to my father. 

Danny: Maria I'm sorry that those memories come back to you. I am. I know you had a bad childhood and a bad family and people who didn't care about you but Maria, I care about you. And so does my family. We love you. You don't have to worry anymore about people not caring for you because so many people around you love you and care for you. And I am truly sorry about your childhood, but it's over. That's behind you. You have something better to live for now.

Maria: Danny, you mean the world to me. More then the world really. Thank you.

Hey everyone! I forgot to say in the last few chapters that I know it's been awhile but I am now back and I'm going to be a lot more persistent with my writing. I took a little break but I will continue to write again.
