Becca's POV

I jump up as I hear Lee's desperate screaming.

"Gally, we have to show this to Alby." I say, waving the note in the air. I don't know what these people want from me, but I'm sue as hell not gonna listen to them.

He nods his head before wrapping his arms around me in a hug.

"I won't let anyone hurt you." He whispers. God I almost melt at his words. Does this boy know what he's doing to me?

"I know." I whisper back.

We stay there until we hear another scream, then we let go and look out the window.

"We better go." Gally says, gesturing towards where Lee is being forced out into the Maze.

I nod my head a little slowly.

Gally grabs my hand and smiles at me. "Hey, it'll be alright."

I nod my head a little more confidently this time and give him a small smile in return.

"Good that." I say to try to make this situation a little less tense.

Gally's usual smirk returns as he walks us out of the room, not letting go of my hand the whole time.
•••••••••••••••••

"No! Please! I didn't mean to! I-I promise I'll never do it again! Please, PLEASE! It's not my fault, it's not my fault! Please Alby, I'm innocent!" Lee screams when we get there.

Gally pulls me closer to him, wrapping an arm around my back.

Alby ignores Lee, and starts to inspect the walls. Lee's neck has a collar on it that Alby is holding, and about twelve other boys, the Keepers I'm guessing, are all holding long, pointy sticks in Lee's direction.

"I've got to go help." Gally whispers to me. I nod my head a little and he walks off, joining the rest of the Keepers and grabbing a stick.

When Alby seems satisfied with looking at the walls, he yells, "Poles up!" And all of the Keepers raise their 'poles'.

Alby starts moving Lee towards the open Doors, causing his screams to become louder and more desperate.

I shield my eyes as I hear the Doors start to close. I can't watch this, I can't watch it.

I hear Lee scream one last time as the Doors close, cutting him off.

All of the Keepers drop their poles, all looking sad, and go back to their jobs. Everyone dispersed after that, except for me, Gally, and Alby.

Gally looks at me and nods, then comes over and takes my hand. I take the note out of my pocket and we walk up to Alby, Gally pulling me even closer to him.

Alby takes one look at me, the note in my hands, and the grim look on our faces to guess what's going on.

"You got a letter from the Creators, didn't you?" He asks us.

I nod my head, not knowing how he knew, but scared of how he will react when he reads it. I hand it to him and he reads it.

When he finished he sighs, then hands it back to me. "Look Greenie. The best thing to do is ignore them. When I got here, I got notes from them too, saying exactly that. If you just ignore them, they'll stop coming. Got it Slinthead?" Alby says, trying to make me laugh at that last part.

I break into a smile, happy he's not gonna brush me or something. "Good that Alby. Thanks."

Gally pulls me back towards the Homestead and I gladly follow him.

I'm happy some people in this shucking Glade get me.
