HOPE'S POV

"Christmas Eve, can you believe it?" MG questions in almost disbelief, as we trudge through the snow toward the entrance of Walmart.

I breathe into my cupped hands, rubbing them together to create friction. "It's been a wild week, but surprisingly, yes I can believe it." I say, unclasping the keys hanging from my belt and searching for the specific one to unlock the security doors.

"Ugh, I can't wait to give my gift to Penelope, she's going to love it."

I frown. God, has everyone got a gift for their secret Santa but me?

"What'd you get her?" I ask curiously, unlocking the doors for us. MG charges inside, flicking the lights on and shaking the snow from his semi Afro. I do the same, just ruffling the fallen snow from my hair and removing my overcoat to hang it behind my chair at my station.

"I got her a book of old witch crafty things. You know, spells and that." He replies giddily, almost too excited to share.

"You should've gotten her a voodoo doll of yourself."

My best friend scoffs, "Very funny, Hope, but I don't want to be tortured on a regular basis."

I laugh to myself, spotting Jed and Kaleb scurry into the store, looking disheveled and their clothes crinkled and out of place. Jed's top buttons on his shirt were opened and exposing a sliver of flesh that was marked purple and in the shape of lips. A glorious hickey.

I nudge MG's shoulder and he catches on, his eyes widening. "Woah, no way. I thought they were just besties." He mutters, watching them run hands through messy hair in a attempt to tame wild sex hair.

"Besties who get under the sheets together." I correct smugly. MG laughs softly, shuddering slightly.

"Unbelievable."

Jed is bisexual. His standards and taste in both men and women are pleasing to say the least but I am a little surprised he hooked up with Kaleb, given their history of friendship together. I just pray there's no strings attached because Jed isn't the type to stay around for a committed relationship. And Kaleb doesn't deserve one sided in-differences.

MG leaves to restock a few shelves while I hang back and swivel around in my chair, filling with boredom. One day until Christmas, it has approached faster than I anticipated.

"Good morning, short stack."

I glance up at the blonde woman, gnawing on the inside of my cheek as I study her appearance.

Of course she looks amazing.

She's wearing a black mid thigh skirt with fishnet stockings on underneath, paired with a thick large overcoat that is tightly zipped up to her chin. It's a wonder she hasn't received pneumonia from waltzing around in that. Isn't she cold?

"Are you even human?" I ask, gesturing to her outfit.

She looks down at herself, frowning confusedly. "I didn't realise what I was wearing offended you. Is it too revealing?"

What-

"No, I didn't mean- the weather. It's cold outside, how have you managed to not freeze to death?"

Lizzie blushes slightly, but she tries to hide her face from me. A blush? Why would she be blushing.

"I don't have the wardrobe to suit the weather conditions. Most of what I own is either short or thin material wise." She explains in short, and I begin to ponder of why that is.
