Well this is awkward.

Seonghwa is currently fiddling with a loose thread on his jacket while Hongjoong sighs, hands burried in his pockets and unable to look Seonghwa in his eyes.

"Are they gone?" Hongjoong asks.

Seonghwa peers from behind the wall carefully and gave a sweep of the street outside. After a moment, he retreats and nodded. "Yeah. I'm pretty sure they lost us."

Hongjoong sighs in relief and runs his hand through his pale pink hair. Seonghwa catches a glimpse of the piercing on Hongjoong's eyebrow before the hair falls back down to conceal it. The former makes a mental note to ask about it before they leave.

Hongjoong pats Seonghwa awkwardly on the shoulder and gets up to leave. "Thanks for helping me out," Hongjoong mutters, already heading for the opposite end of the alley.

"You don't get to do this, Hongjoong."

He stops dead in his tracks but doesn't reply.

"I deserve an explanation for everything," Seonghwa stresses. He gets up from his crouched position and slowly approaches Hongjoong from the back.

He is curious, more so than angry. Hongjoong could hear it in his voice. He can tell that he wants to know how Hongjoong had ended up being chased by the cops in the first place. He can only imagine how shocked Seonghwa must have been to see Hongjoong for the first time in a while since winter break started, with his new hair colour and piercings on places that had never seen a needle.

Luckily for Hongjoong, Seonghwa hadn't asked for an explanation when they bumped into each other earlier on. He had quickly shoved Hongjoong into the back alley of his father's studio where the shadows of the dark night kept them well hidden from Hongjoong's pursuers.

Hongjoong sighs. What a reunion, he thinks. He turns around to look at Seonghwa who only stares at him dead in the eye, his resolve unwavering.

"Tell me what happened Joong. How did this happen?" Seonghwa asks, jabbing his finger into Hongjoong's chest.

Hongjoong knows what he means. It is more than just about the cops that were chasing him. It is about them. Hongjoong doesn't remember when he started being under the influence of the bullies in school and distancing himself from his own best friend. He just knows the reason for it is Seonghwa himself. But Seonghwa doesn't have to know that.

Hongjoong waves it off dismissively. "You talk too much Hwa Seong. You always do."

Seonghwa reacts to the nickname and Hongjoong can see it in the way he flinches and immediately breaks eye contact to look at anything but him. Hongjoong bites his lip, annoyed at himself for letting the name escape so easily. It is almost an instinct that even after months of not calling it, it still comes as naturally as it used to. The nickname holds more meaning than anyone knows, years of memories and friendship associated with it.

"Fine. Don't tell me then. Go ahead and just let yourself spiral into self-destruction," Seonghwa spits, turning on his heel and walking back out to the street.

Hongjoong scoffs.

"How dare you say something like that? You don't even know what I'm going through, you priviledged bitch."

Seonghwa turns immediately and almost runs to Hongjoong, his finger digging deep into the latter's chest.

"Yeah I don't. So why not you make me understand?" he seethes.

The two remain in that position for what seems like an eternity, Seonghwa's fingers digging painfully into Hongjoong's chest from the way he is grabbing Hongjoong's leather jacket, their faces inches apart as they breathe heavily from the pent-up anger and frustration. It is a stand-off, neither one willing to back down before the other.
