Landon

The small pile of fur gripped and tugged on my pajamas, while the near miniscule fluffy feathers stuck to it on the entire way home.

I found him right outside of my pack lands. He was crying out beside his mom, who could only watch as she bled out.

Tiny screeches and cries came from the tiny thing in my arms, and in an instant, dad, London and Daniel ran toward the griffin in my hands.

Dad stared at me like I'd grown an extra head, which would be really silly and kinda cool.

Ooh~ maybe auntie Luna could get me one!

"Put. It. Down."

Oh! I zoned out again...

"B-bwhy?" My words were already beginning to mix into my tears. I already had a backup plan, so that dad would let me keep him:

'Cry'

And

'say "yes" to the long list of responsibilities then not follow them'

It was a perfect plan, absolutely foolproof...meaning that dad was the fool and that was proof of it.

Dad stared at the wiggling griffin with distaste. He would always agree to whatever London and I asked of him, so I had already named the small ball of fluff: Storm!

Even though I knew dad would say yes he seemed pretty reluctant this time around and that scared me.

Ugh, the snuggle was real!

Wait..no it's struggle! The struggle was real! Mama told me not to mix those two up again...

"Gryphons are dangerous little things, Landon, we don't mess with them." Dad muttered, while looking at Storm as if he would kill him right this second.

"But he didn't hurt me!" I looked down at Storm, who had began rubbing his small head against my chest lovingly.

Dad looked reluctant, but for a second I saw a small spark in his eyes.

A desperate, hungry look.

"Don't come crying to me when it tries to eat you..." My dad muttered, glaring at the bundle of fur that sat in my hands patiently, before walking away.

I giggled and nodded my head, even though he couldn't see me anymore.

Little did dad know, this griffin would soon become my best friend, or second best friend, after Daniel...

Twelve Years Later

Storm sat on my unnecessarily large windowsill, there was enough space on it for him to lay down and stretch and still have plenty of space.

My dad demanded that my sister and I have the largest rooms in the entire pack house, which meant that I had two floors all to myself, which covered my necessities, while my sister had two as well.

That also meant that our pack 'house' was more like a pack castle, since each individual had more than enough living space.

Storm soaked up each bit of my annoyance and... ew, fear.

I was turning eighteen in two days. Which meant that I could find a mate, someone that I was chained to for all eternity, I still didn't know how I was supposed to feel about that.

After a few minutes of panicking, the large griffin gave up on his way of trying to comfort me, instead he left me alone to do my thing.

And my thing was panicking.

I threw my head into one of the medium sized pillows that lay on my red and white bed

and yelled

Loud

Storm gave me one of those freaked out bird looks before going back to his sunbathing.

People from all around the world would visit tommorow and expect me to tell them about my 'great adventures' because apparently I went outside and did productive stuff.

I took a glance at Storm just as the door swung open.

Storm raised his large black wings and hissed, but then immediately flopped onto the windowsill when he realized it was Daniel.

I looked towards my best friend and sighed, whilst he raised an eyebrow.

Daniel had the same slim, lean frame as me and had light brown hair and dark skin that contrasted my blond hair and fair skin. His hair was short and always styled to perfection. My hair could not relate, since no hair product could ever tame it.

"So?"

"...So?"

The bed sunk and a hand began sliding up and down my arm. He wasn't the best at comfort, but it was kind of working.

"Whoever your mate is, they'll love you, promise,"

"You can't control their feelings, Danny."

"But I can control their life expectancy..."

I rolled my eyes and then glared at him, but didn't argue since he definitely could. He had Alpha blood in him.

Storm's demanding starry gaze stopped my train of thought quickly.

"I'm going out!" I said just as Daniel said "The visitors are arriving soon,"

"You should greet them!" He said, his voice pooling with excitement, while I said: "I should leave..."

He gave me a pointed look that told me I should stay put, but I needed to clear my mind.

I knew that if I stayed in this castle for a second longer I'd either decapitate myself or a pack member.

I jumped up and out of the large window that Storm was resting on, I heard Daniel call for me, but I was already way too far down to turn back.

My suite was so far up, that I could open my window and get a face full of cloud.

I whistled loudly and just before I hit the ground two large claws wrapped around my torso and started ascending until all I could see was blue.

I had gotten far enough from the pack house and I finally felt the panic subside. I took hold of the fur on Storm's throat and used the leverage to flip myself onto his back.

Thoughts of my future mate and who I thought it would be played through my mind until I was even more nervous than before.
