I downed the amber liquid and grimaced at the taste. It was like if every single citrus came together in one tiny bottle with four cups of sugar.
Yes, I don't like sweet things, sue me.
Storm had a little bowtie on, looking as dashing as ever, while I had my tight attire, that made me look constipated.
Daniel had a black suit on, with a grey dress shirt and a black tie. He actually looked really good, and the dark colors matched his equally broody features.
"Don't look so blue now, it's not all that bad. Just think about it: you'll be the King! No one will disobey you, and you'll have me and a gryphon-"
"HSSSSSS!"
"Sorry, me and Storm, by your side."
"... really?"
"I swear, now let's go blow some minds!"

"Alpha! For you~" Another woman muttered, her head held low out of respect. She held a small ring and kneeled as though she was proposing.
I had barely been here for more that two hours, yet I could tell that I would be completely drained of all emotional and physical energy tomorrow.
Ugh, people were so demanding.
"They are your people, you must treat them with respect." My wolf muttered with a hint of finality in his tone.
"But I don't wannaaa." I whined to Zeus like the four year old, I apparently was.
I look down, only to find the petite lady on one knee, holding out a silver ring to me. She had wonderfully hazel eyes, fiery red hair and fair skin.
To anyone, she would be a dream, but to me... well, she just wasn't my mate.
"Um, thanks... but no thanks," Storm hissed at her and chased her away.
He's been super protective and it was probably because I was shining like a disco ball. Every piece of clothing on my body cost an arm and a leg and shone brighter than the sun itself.
I wore a white suit with little flicks of gold and silver here and there. I had an unnecessarily long golden cape that I tripped over several times, my long platinum blonde hair was loose and danced around me as I moved around the giant area, with a black griffon watching me from above.
"Hello, Alpha," Another gift.
"F-for you!" Another.
"Here, A-alpha," and another.
It was nearing midnight and I was surrounded with gifts, with most of them being labelled for a 'Beast Trainer' or 'Beast Tamer' etcetera...
Eventually someone left a large basket on the castles doorstep with a note earlier, and it read:
To:The King Of Beasts
From:______________
My family and I have been searching for you for months, we found this on a hunting trip and do not know what to do with it. We trust that it will be fine in your hands.
Signed,
Your Loyal SubjectIt was a drake egg.
I know... I shouldn't have.
Like I really shouldn't have.
But I kept it.
So now it sat in my room, cuddled up in heated blankets and pillows. I, somehow, felt calmer thinking about the baby drake that would pop out of the egg than the thousands of people surrounding and waiting on me.
So I thought about it for the majority of the night.
Damn, you know something's wrong when thinking about a monster makes you feel safer than worrying about your people.
Maybe it was the courage...?
...
Anyway, I thought about what I would do with it when it hatched.
I thought about what I would name it.
I thought about my mate-
No.
I thought about how it would look and it's sex.
Throughout the night there was no sign of my mate. The next day, no sign of them and the next, I was met with the same results.
I remained waiting for them for two years...
Two Years Later
I separated Sky and Storm, and before they could take their bickering any further, directed them away from each other.
"There are young ones present!" I scolded Sky, who only licked his blue and yellow scales sassily in response.
Goddess, when had it come to this? I was turning into a cat lady!
Except I was not a lady.
And these sure as hell were not cats.
There was a little manticore cub, a lycan pup and a tiny wyrm, no larger than a ball python. They were nipping at my ankles and running around me in circles.
The past year was challenging. The population of the pack grew and so did the visitors. I was almost always busy planning meetings, solving problems and if I ever got any free time (like now), I spent it all training these little monsters.
Why did I think that this was a good idea again?
Who knew being Alpha would be this tiring?
People would always ask me what was wrong, since apparently I looked like so overworked, I was confused for a zombie most of the time.
I didn't give them any responses though, instead I went back to working with the cubs, arranging meetings and solving problems.
For the next two years.
Another Two Years Later
I was tired.
I was really tired.
I have been slaving away, making a beautiful pack and training an army, but at what cost?
The cost of my freedom.
And, embarrassingly enough... my love life.
I hadn't been in a relationship or even slept with anyone since the night I turned eighteen!
I mean I could, if I really wanted to...
But it would be frowned upon! My mate was still alive and out there, so I wouldn't be able to without having everyone breathing down my neck.
And like I'd mentioned before, I wouldn't have the time.
So all I could do was sit still and work until my mate showed.
Just a glimpse of my mate.
It's all I'll ask for.
Just a tinge of hope.
To keep me sane.
