"Neville?" he looked at him. "But I thought it was only us two. If I knew we were bringing friends, I would bring Seamus along."
"Don't you understand?" Ginny huffed in annoyance. "I'm not going with you. I'm going with NEVILLE, instead."
"Why on earth would you go out with Neville instead of me?" he asked.
"You're thicker than a troll." she said. "Come Neville, our date is waiting." she tugged by his hand.
.
.
.
Dean's jaw fell open. He was so stunned that even if a pixie entered his mouth, he wouldn't notice.Neville looked at him, trying to say I'll explain later with his eyes, but he didn't think the other boy saw that.
"Well, that was fun." Ginny announced cheerfully.
"What was?" Neville asked dubiously. Because if he remembered the recent events correctly, he couldn't see any fun or joyous event Ginny was talking about.
"Ditching Dean, or what else!" she explained.
"You ditched him?" he asked her. "You don't mean....that you broke up with him?"
"I haven't yet, but I'll do it soon. I just have to come up with something." Ginny said flatly. Seeing her expression, Neville was beginning to question her sanity.
They walked silently until they came in front of the walls that separated hogwarts from the outside world.
"We have to climb it." she said.
"I don't know how to climb a wall."
"Alright. I'll go first and lend out a hand. Think you can manage that?"
"Aren't this walls protected with security charms?" he said, hesitant.
"Urgh!" She cried out in exasperation. "You ask too many questions, Neville."
Seeing no other alternatives, he decided to give it a try. He was astonished when he discovered climbing walls were easier than riding broomsticks.
"All right now," Ginny said. "Where shall we go?Three Broomsticks?"
Neville just shrugged.
"I wish I could hit you with a bludger," she murmured. "Follow me."
And then they were in the Three Broomsticks. It was crowded than usual. People were jumping and peeking over other's shoulders to see what was happening inside.
After pushing and getting pushed, screaming and shouting, they entered the pub. Once they were in there, the real reason behind peoples' curiosity was revealed.
"Blodwyn Bludd is here," someone said.
.
.
.
Blodwyn Bludd was a musician. He was a vampire who liked to sing in his bat-like voice. Ginny never found his music to be appealing, but George said he found him fancy.Of course he would, she thought. The only things George fancies are the things that annoys the hell out me.
But it was impossible to get through the people and to find their way out. In the end, Ginny decided to stay despite his rubbish songs that were polluting her ears constantly.
"Hi, what can I get for you?" Rosmerta asked. She wasn't surprised to see Ginny with Neville, for she knew the girl in front of her weren't fond of keeping one partner for too long.
"Two butterbears, as usual." she said.
Rosmerta smiled and went to fetch their orders.
"So, how are you enjoying the freedom?" she asked, facing him.
"Tremendously paranoid."
Ginny laughed. "Well, it happens the first time. When you get used to breaking rules, you'll start enjoying it."
"I'm not going to break any more rules," he said. "Gran would kill me."
"Then you'd better die doing something heroic. You'd die anyway.," she shrugged.
"I like that you're spontaneous and impulsive, and you're very brave." he said. "But I'm not like you. I can not look in the eye of death and laugh. I can not just take risks and shrug them away as if they were mere thrills. I well, how can I describe it?" he struggled with his words.
Ginny put her over his. "It's okay. I was just teasing you."
Tear rolled down his cheeks. "I always try to live up to my parents', but it's hard. Whenever I go into something, I think about it at least hundred times before I take a decision. No matter how hard I try, I can never act on impulse."
"Acting on impulse isn't always heroic, sometimes it's immensely stupid."
Neville smiled a little.
"But it's not true that you don't act on impulse." Ginny stated. "You once fought Harry, Hermione and Ron in your first year; from what I've heard. Surely you didn't think a lot before doing that?"
"I actually did." he smiled. "I heard their plan that evening when I was doing my homework. From then, I was swaying like a pendulum on the question of whether I should give them away or help them instead. At the end, I decided to fight them because I thought it would create least complication."
"Neville," Ginny looked at him in awe. "You're a piece of shit."
Neville laughed out loud. "Thanks for telling me that," he said.
Rosmerta placed their butterbears in front of them.
"Thanks." they both said at the same time.
Ginny took a sip. "Oh no!" she feigned horror.
"What happened?" he asked.
"Don't look." she said under her breath. "Dean's here. Oh gosh! Why is he here?"
"That simplifies everything." Neville told her. "I'll just go to him and explain everything." Neville started to stand up.
Ginny jerked his hand down. "Are you mad?" she asked.
"Why?" he asked, confused. "Haven't you taught him enough lesson?"
"Neville," she pleaded. "Please don't do this."
.
.
.
Neville's brain stopped functioning after that. She never saw Ginny say 'please' to somebody. What was happening? What did he miss? Was he reading between the lines?""I don't want to him to know," Ginny said quietly. "I have to maintain my image."
Neville laughed a little. "That's what you're worried about? You aren't worried about risking your relationship with him?"
"Let me do the worry, Neville. And please, by the name of Blodwyn Bludd, sit down."
Neville did sit down. He wasn't prepared for what happened after that.
Ginny leaned forward. "I'm going to kiss you," she said.
