Chapter 21

'Kyaa kahaa tumne?
Patni laaye ho apni? (Aniruddh now raised his voice)
Baba se, Kaka se, mujhse kisi se puchna, samajhna, btaana zaruri nahi samjha tumne?
Patni laaya hun Dada! Samajh bhi rahe ho kyaa keh rahe ho? '
Somnath with tears in eyes : 'Dada... Daada shant ho jaiye! Main sab bataunga aapko lekin bas abhi ke liye shant ho jaiye! Sab jaag jayenge... Meri baat toh suniye'
Aniruddh crossed his hands and looked towards other side 'Jo karke aaye ho... Uske baad kuch kehne-sunne ko bacha hai Som?'

Som: Dada.. Aap bhi toh Boudi ke sath aise hi shadi karke aaye the naa?
Mujhe meri baat kehne ka mauka toh dijiye'
Aniruddh was fuming with anger but when he recalled his time, he decided to give Som a chance.

FLASHBACK

Som was winding up his factory work but a very loyal and old worker approached him and requested
'Chote Malik'
Som; 'Ji kaka kahiye... '
Worker: Meri Bhatiji ki sagai hai aaj Chote Malik... Agar aap aakar thodi kripa kar dete toh hum chote logon ka bhala ho jata!
Som: Aisa kyun keh rahein hein Kaka... Aap sab bhi hamare apne hi hein.
Worker: Isliye toh aapse keh rahein hein Chote Malik... Binoy Babu se toh nahi keh paaye lekin aap aayenge toh acha lagega humein.
Som hesitated...
Worker: Yahin pas ke gaaon mein hai...zyada der nahi lagegi.

Som eventually agreed and went to the function.
He received a grand welcome over there.

But while he was returning...
He saw someone through the yellow light of his car, who just crossed the road and ran between the dense trees on one side of the road. He stopped his car all of the sudden.

But then he saw the same person was about to jump into a well.

He widened his eyes in fear and ran in order to save the life.

'Kyaa kar rhi ho? Pagal ho gyi ho kyaa?'
He saw while pulling the girl back.
'Toh aur kya karun main? Agar khud ki jaan nahi li maine toh vo log mujhe maar denge' the girl said with weepy eyes and lowering down her head.
Som then saw her face.
Damn! He knows her, he knows her very well. That mole on her chin, she isn't a stranger.

'Kaun maar dalega tumhe aur kyun?'
Som was enquiring her but she fainted and due to her weight over him he sat down putting her head upon his lap.
'Utho... Kuch toh batao?'
He then saw few men coming towards them.
They were holding fire sticks and stones in their hands.
'Vo rahi vo ladki... '  A man amongst the crowd shouted loud.
'Koi ladka bhi hai uske sath....' Again a voice came.

Som was getting nervous seeing the crowd approaching them.
Still he got up, gathered some courage and asked
'Rukiye aap sab..! Koi btaega aakhir hua kya hai?'
'Hat jaao ladke... Chudail hai ye ladki, iska saaya bhi tumhari zindagi barbaad kar dega
'Chudail..? Aisa kyun keh rhe hein aap sab?'
'Kaam ke bahane logon ke ghar mein jati hai ye aur unka sukh-chain cheen leti hai' a man shouted.
'Humne toh pehle hi khaa tha padhi likhi ladki ko gaaon mein rehne ki ijazat mat do' another man yelled.
'main toh kehta hun daayan hai ye ladki.... Is ladke ko bhi vash main kar liya hoga isne... Maar daalo is ladki ko'
Som stopped them from approaching her.
'Ye sab kyaa keh rahein hein aap log? Pure hosh mein hun main.... Koi vashikaran nahi hua hai mujhe par'
'Toh hat jaao hamare raaste se... Aaj is ladki ka khel khatam karke rahenge hum! Is ladki ko humein saup do aur chale jaao yhaan se'

Somnath Roy Chaudhary a simple, introvert boy in his 20s He is not as bold & courageous as his Kaka, Baba aur elder Brother but he can't let go things like this... He can't let anyone die because he didn't have enough courage to fight them.

'Na main is ladki ko chodhkar jaaunga aur na hi aap logon ko ise haath lagane dunga'
Somnath screamed out loud.

'Kyun apni jaan khatre mein daalna chahte ho tum moorkh? Iska saaya bhi kha jayega tumhe' a man asked Som.
'Iska saaya kha jayega na mujhe..? Toh main ise apne sath lekar jaaunga aur fir dekhta hun kaise khata hai iska saaya Mujhe? ' Som shouted being confident.

'Tum hamare gaaon ki ladki ko lekar jaaoge? Aur hum le jane denge tumhe?' A man said
'Jab aap log ise maar sakte hein toh main ise apne sath bhi nahi le ja sakta kyaa?' Som looked into eyes of the crowd being the shield of the girl.
A man then shouted 'Pagal samjha hai kyaa humein? Hum nahi jaante tum ise apne sath le jakar kyaa karoge iske sath..? Isse behtar yahi nahi hoga...ki mar jaye ye!'
Somnath this time was fuming with anger but what if he failed to save her? Would he ever be able to forgive himself? What's the use of being a Roy Chaudhary if he couldn't save an innocent life? What is the sense of being a human if he can let anyone die in front of him because he wasn't able to put in more efforts?
'aur agar main kahun...ki main ise apni Patni ke adhikaar se lekar jaaunga toh?

Main ise apni Patni banaunga aur ise vo samman dunga jiski haqdaar hai ye!
Fir dekhta hun...ye zindagiyaan barbaad karti hai ya unhein savaarti hai'

He just realized what he said... But now he can't take his words back. He has made a commitment now, a lifetime Commitment indeed.

FLASHBACK ENDS

Aniruddh sat down being lost.
He took the support of the table and was not able to speak anything.
He was thinking that he should scold his brother for taking such impulsive decision?
Or should he curse this society for putting him into such situation?
Or should he blame the destiny of Roy Chaudhary brothers? Why they both went through the same scenario?

Aisi ek mashaal jalakar

Tham kar mere haath ko,

Chal yhaan se sath mein chalaang hum lagayein...

Som also sat with him & said...
'Dada agar ab bhi aapko lagta hai kuch galat kiya hai maine toh bula lijiye sabko... Nahi rokunga main'

'Lekin agar ab koi kadam uthaya hai tumne toh tumhe use sweekar toh karna padega na Som?' Aniruddh said still being lost into his thoughts.

Then he slowly looked towards Som and said...
'Humein sabko batana hoga. Tum chinta mat karo main samjhaunga sabko.
Jaanta hun... Baba, Kaka sab gussa honge lekin maan jayenge vo!
Meri shadi ke samay bhi unhein vaqt lga tha na? Tumhe bhi toh lga thaaa...?
Lekin tum unhein vo vaqt dena....
Hnn..! Unhein vo vaqt dena aur maafi maangna
Vo maan jayenge Som'

'Aur Bondita Boudi??
Vo kabhi nahi maanegi us ladki ko ghar mein rehne dene ke liye Dada...kabhi nahi!' Said Som.

'Ye kyaa keh rhe ho Som? Asked Aniruddh being in shock.
'Boudi kyu nahi manegi tumhari? Tum jaante ho na use... Vo nahi maanti ye sab!' Aniruddh said to Som.
'Jaanta hun tabhi keh rha hun Dada..'
