“I just don’t understand why you can’t come with,” repeated Jennifer.

“I’ve just been a bit busy,” replied Andy.

“With what? You haven’t gone out with us for a while now, I’m curious as to why you’re suddenly not so vacant,” Jennifer complained, folding her arms.

“I just have a lot of work to do, and chores. I also have to take care of Seamus. It’s just getting difficult nowadays and, whenever I’m free, I like to just chill.” Andy felt like the excuses were piling up, but Jennifer didn’t seem to notice.

“I’m sorry,” said Jennifer, “I just miss you. We haven’t spent much time since Halloween.”

Andy stopped packing up her books and looked at her. “I’m sorry, Jen. Really, I am. Maybe we can do something weekend?”

“How about tonight?” she asked.

“I can’t, actually,” replied Andy with a sorrowful look, adding, “I’m being tutored.”

“Really?” Jennifer’s eyebrow raised.

“Yeah,” said Andy.

“By whom?” pried Jennifer.

“A teacher,” confessed Andy.

“A teacher,” repeated Jennifer.

“For Calculus,” added Andy.

Jennifer stared at her for a moment before sighing in defeat. “Okay, this weekend then.”

“Sorry, Jen,” said Andy, feeling bad about it.

“It’s alright, as long as these sessions are helping,” said Jennifer. “Anyway, I have to go. See you tomorrow?”

“See you tomorrow,” agreed Andy.

Jennifer left the class, Andy soon followed. Andy waited by the gate for people to disperse a bit, that way they wouldn’t catch her along the road, and then she began walking. Five minutes passed and she had reached her destination, a spot just down the road, and she waited. Five minutes became ten, and then fifteen, and there was no sign or sound that signified her ride.

Andy waited a few more minutes before she saw the familiar white car approaching her. As it stopped, she leaned against the passenger door and the window slid open.

“You’re late,” said Andy, looking at Adam with a half smile.

“I’m so sorry, dear. I had last minute errands, Harris wouldn’t leave me be,” he apologized.

Andy got into the car and greeted him with the usual afternoon smooch.

“Don’t worry, I can never be mad at you for too long,” she grinned. “Especially when you call me dear.”

“What if,” Adam leaned in, “I called you love?”

“Hmm,” Andy grabbed Adam’s tie, tugging it slightly as she kissed him again.

“I definitely like that response,” said Adam, pulling away to change the gear and start driving.

Not long after that, they arrived at her place and Andy quickly went in to get changed and get Seamus. They had agreed that Adam would not go inside her house in case her father was to show up. At least they had to worry about only one parent, as Andy’s mother was away on a business trip.

Upon seeing Andy leave her house with the familiar mastiff, he started the car and waited. As soon as they got in, he drove them to his house. It had become a habitual activity, and a very helpful one. Andy had accepted Adam’s help with calculus and had met up with him often. Not only was it good for her grades, but they got to spend more time with each other and it made her very happy.
