The party was a blast! At least, it was a blast for me. I got to learn which materials worked best to make a homemade fingerprint powder and how to take special detective notes. Detective notes are seriously different from ordinary school notes.

Mom and Tammy, however, weren't enjoying the party nearly as much. I believe John was trying to flirt with my mom.

"I am so sorry," Great Uncle Bill sighed, "I wasn't aware that Lina had gotten a divorce. Now we have John flirting with her right in front of her wife."

This angered me, "If you want to apologize, apologize to my mom! And tell the creepster to back off!"

Grandma was laughing her butt off. "I see your mother didn't raise no coward! Or fool! I was wondering why Bill invited the front desk security worker!"

I laughed, but I decided to look out the window as well. And it was snowing.

    "It's snowing!" I cried.

"Oh yeah," sighed Grandma, "It's just gonna flurry a little."

It didn't look like a little flurry. It looked like a furious blizzard. Right on cue, the power went out. I scrambled for my phone and turned on the flashlight.

I did a head count. I saw Mom and Tammy sitting on the couch. Great Uncle Bill was sitting next to my mom and Tammy (I hoped he was apologizing). John was leaning on the wall next to the couch. Bella the maid was serving John some potato chips. Grandma was right next to me. Steve was sitting on the stairs.

That left Pete the butler and Thompson.

But before I could imagine where Pete and Thompson were, I heard a scream.

Me, being the only person who knew where their phone was, led the group upstairs.

We traced the scream to the bathroom. There was a shell-shocked Pete standing next to an unconscious Thompson.

Steve walked over to Thompson's unconscious body and took his pulse.

Steve's eyes widened and he gasped, "He's dead. There has been a murder."
