They say- The most magical day in a person's life is the one when they meet their soulmate. Well, 13 September for me had no hint of anything magical. It was the day our classes were about to start. Percy woke me up at 8:56 am, class in 4 minutes.
"Dude you are a sound sleeper. I tried waking you up like half an hour ago", he said.
I rushed to the bathroom to get freshened up just to find my glasses missing. Percy and I searched the whole room for 15 minutes just to find it inside a book. I started dressing up and found one of my socks missing. It was already 9:10.
Good. First day of class and I'm 10 minutes late.
I searched for my sock and found it under my pillow. I ran off with my bag to the staircase. I was halfway down the stairs when I remembered that I did not have my textbook. I slapped my forehead and dashed back to my room to find both Percy and my textbook missing.
Oh Lord! Percy must've noticed I left my book and gone to give it to me in the class.
So I ran down the stairs, jumping 2 at a time to the second room in the right side of the hall of second floor. Percy was waiting at the door with my book. "Thanks", I whispered, grabbed my book and walked into the classroom, 30 minutes late, sweaty, panting.
It was a large room with a large sliding chalkboard in the back wall of the teacher's table. The classroom had semicircular benches facing the front. The benches were laid on steps so that even the people in the last bench could see the board. The architecture looked almost like an indoor Roman amphitheater, even the last bencher could hear the teacher as clear as the one sitting in front. The room had pictures of French scholars hanging on the left wall. The elegant window panes on the right wall had a view to the apple orchard in the courtyard, their leaves starting to turn yellow.
The swift spring breeze came along with the smell of cider-y earth announcing the coming of autumn."Hello Mister, you're 30 minutes late", a deep voice said, which brought me back to the reality. He looked at my body- sweaty, unclean and tired but didn't make any comments like my high school teacher Mrs. Dodds would've done. Remembering her and the way she used to torment us made me angry.
"I am sorry Professor, I will not repeat it."
"What's your name?"
"Jason Grace"
"Good, now Mr. Grace go take your seat."
I went up the alley and sat where Leo had saved me a seat.
"Dude, where have you been? There are so many cute girls here. The girl over there, totally winked at me. I'm making you meet her after class", Leo said pointing to a girl with brown wavy hair in one of the first benches. I rolled my eyes and laughed at Leo's smug face.
After three hours of learning about the Life History of Victor Hugo, our class finally came to an end giving it off to lunch break. Leo grabbed my arm and dragged me to the girl who he had pointed at earlier. She wore faded jeans, boots and denim. Her chocolate brown hair wavily fell in place on her shoulders with thin braided strands hanging down the sides. She did not wear makeup like most girls in the room but she was seriously pretty. Her kaleidoscopic eyes were deep brown and shined with hope. I could stare at them all day long.
"What do you want, Leo?", she said.
"I want you to meet my friend Jason", said Leo.
"Hi Jason, I'm Piper", she said.
"Hi Piper. Do you and Leo know each other? Leo said you winked at him earlier."
She scrunched her nose and frowned at Leo, "Yeah, we met near the gate. And no I wasn't winking I was waving."
"Same thing", Leo rolled his eyes and smiled at me.
Piper gracefully picked up her books and turned around walking out of the classroom, her wavy hair dancing in the breeze.
Before I realised I was gazing at her, Leo snapped his fingers infront of me. "Ooo, someone got a crush, huh?"
"No, I don't", I blushed and left the room.
